The userbase of the browser has been growing rapidly too, historically its been more than doubling each year. BAT is essentially at max circulation. Brave can't just decide to dump BAT onto the market, or create BAT out of thin air. They have to buy BAT off of exchanges to reward users. How ads work is an advertiser can pay in BAT or USD. If Brave gets paid in USD 70% of it goes towards buying BAT off of the open market and then they distribute that BAT back to users.

This is actually a pretty accurate comparison. The only way they would make this all work is if they used a standard L1 coin rather than their own made-up token, so if Brave paid out in Bitcoin or Monero. Brave fans would be interested in the crypto part and crypto fans would benefit from holding something actually useful
