These are all failed business ventures. None of them succeed. You only think they are common or widely used because the owners pay to advertise in web articles and your little NPC brain thinks (((journalism))) is real.

Seattle has microstudios that don't go to the extreme in OP pic, but they are usually shared bathrooms with the next door roommate and shared kitchen/laundry with the floor.

security cameras and lot attendant wagies regularly inspect storage units and watch everyone come in and leave on cameras to protect against this. and if they catch you doing it, they'll have you trespassed and charged with vagrancy or some shit.

this is so fucked up. I had a nightmare a few months ago where I was running through the area where I grew up (very leafy suburb with nice old houses) and most of the buildings had been replace with those pods (just like the ones in your pic) but they weren't indoors, they were under concrete verandah type structures a few meters from the road. The pods had mainly chinese people in them and they all had their 'doors' open. Some were cooking, one woman was putting on make-up getting ready to go out, you could see some had hung up their washing just outside their pod, some were using their pods to run mini-delis, others were using theirs as a storage unit but also to live in. It was summer and the Australian summer is HOT. I could see some people just lying on their beds, napping with their doors open trying to catch the breeze. I kept running and running and all I could see were those pods. And as I ran past them, they just ignored me and went about their business like I wasn't there, I thought, "how can these people live like this, do I live in a pod now too, what am I going to do?!". Absolutely terrifying!

I doubt the price is right. Source?
If you work in an office in the a metropolis and lives alone a micro apartment with all the utilities included would be great. If you want t a family it's obviously not for you, this looks like one of those capsule hotels in Japan or Korea...
