There will never be a meaningful short squeeze in link or any other cryptocurrency. The most a coin can be shorted is 100%, end of story, and that's assuming every single person who owns a coin lends it out. Exchanges that operate in bad-faith and internalize orders against their customer deposits can artificially exceed the short % by selling coins which don't exist. Even if these scams get exposed there is no larger entity to pass the debt onto, once a bad-faith exchange is exposed they collapse and shut down, they don't pump the value of the coin they were internalizing, their customers just get rugged. Cryptos are not stocks, and these exchanges and lending protocols are all set up in the Caymans, Bahamas, China, or some other non-extradition country.
