"I hate the smell of chaos in the morning". That's what I thought to myself as I strode across the floor of the stock exchange. Panicked traders huddled in the corners. Ripped pieces of paper showing unbelievable losses. A man pleading with his female broker to give him a few more minutes before she margin called him - he'd be in the green by then, he said (fat chance of that).

It wasn't a normal scenario. But then again, I'm not a normal investor. The name's Slurper. Dip Slurper. Everyone's got a role to play in this market, and for me it's buying. Stocks, Bonds, Commodities, Female Rejuvenation Gel (that's what I call it in front of the skirts anyways). You name it, I've probably bought it. And right now I was on the tail of a hot case.

The dame's name was oil. Quite the slippery character judging by her rap sheet. The guy who called me said she pinned him down and forced him to take physical delivery, leaving only a $20 bill as evidence - but the statue of limitations on that case was up, so I needed some dirt to put her away for a longgg time (in my portfolio, that is). Thumbing past the back-of-the envelope DCF calculation in my notebook, I turned to a page noting the evidence I had so far. Demand destruction in the 3rd world. Fears of an incoming recession. Cheap Russian oil selling at pennies on the dollar to China and Inda. I smiled. I'd seen stories like this before, and I know how they end. And how people think they end. From the looks of it I'd be in this one for the long haul. "Let's get to the bottom of this" I said to nobody in particular, then turned on my heel and made for the trading desk.

I'm a former zog bot. I routinely camp in -30c/ -22f.
You'll want two sleeping bags rated for -20c in that situation. One slightly larger than the other. A good inflatable with a high R value. You MUST strip off your cloths before going in to the sleeping bags. Or at a minimum get down to under wear. Stick boots/ cloths in plastic grocery bag and stick at end of sleeping bag. You don't want the moisture to join you as you sleep. Tarp over tent. I recommend using a naptha/white gas powered latern that uses mantels. It will heat the tent up maybe 4 degrees. The fumes will accumulate at the top of the tent. So in the morning don't sit or stand up right away or you will pass out from the fumes. Open the door fully. If your eyes are sore it's from a dangerous amount of fumes in the tent, lol. You will need a bit more ventilation.

Sort of like asking what the best way is to get good at basketball, or hockey, or a whole sport. Because that is a complex strategy BUT it is the right strategy for retail. VRP harvesting is ideal for retail investors while going long vol and trying to buy vol where it is underpriced is the best strategy for institutions (NOT CHUDS LIKE US 4CHAN).

To VRP harvest you should avoid environments with major vol shocks and vol shifts. If you can do this you will have removed the majority of the major drawdowns associated with VRP harvesting. So you should model regimes where major vol shocks & vol shifts occur and where they don't normally occur.

You should mainly look to trade really rich risk premiums. The premiums that big guys can’t, retail has the luxury of time(you can wait.). Big guys need to bring + p&l. They can't trade like joe from the block, you can.
