Sure, but the QE of 2020 was the "solution" for supply chain disruption. So QT should be the "solution" for return to normal supply chains.

You have it backwards. The 2010s were a decade of a "wealth effect" that extended to completely distorting market dynamics of producers versus unprofitable tech shitcos. The posterchild of which will always be UBER.
The "returns" were greater with tech shitcos because they could always feed their shitty businesses with more ever cheaper debt basically turning large cap investing into glorified venture capital fundraising rounds. Also lead to a lot of consolidation of firms that somehow could defy the odds and buy their slow dying competitors.
ESG investing basically started in lock step with QE. Because these tech shitcos could at least boast of having low E and S impact since they are just data centers in an office somewhere versus an entire mining, drilling, etc. operation. And it is not coincidental that as tech shitcos start imploding there is now a "shift" towards investing in producers.
A recession would be a cleansing fire that purges a lot of built up dead and dying undergrowth including the unbelievably massive malinvestment of the past decade.
The only problems are, of course, that there is shitco "employment" that would be vaporized and would entail reversing the wealth effect. Both ultimately good ideas. But better than outright cowardice of compounding these issues by screaming for QE at the slightest sign of pain.

Here's a kind of a silly question. I understand how greeks and options work, but I've seen gamma described as "the change in delta as the underlying price changes".
What I'm confused by is when you apply that change.
>option price is $10, a delta of 0.50, and a gamma of 0.10
>asset price goes up by $1
>is the new price $10.50 (price+delta, then increase delta by gamma) or $10.60? (increase delta by gamma, then increase price by delta)

I know it's easy to conceptualize on paper but when you're mathing it out, there's a certain order of steps to follow and that's what fucks me up for some reason

That is a start but both in the US and EU there are still "green energy maxis" that continue to think that they can just ignore physics to achieve their meme dreams. That includes the politicians. They must be made to capitulate to reality or itll be much worse in the future. Germany is already having to kneel to Russia solely because of its own willfull stupidity.
> A recession would still be meaningless, people lose their jobs (not just tech), can't pay their rents/mortgages/debt payments
Rent and mortgages would go down. Wage stagnation would translate to more at home purchasing power. And if you would have to declare bankruptcy if rates rise to even historic norms than you weren't in a good spot to begin with.
>inflation still will be a problem, which would require another round of QE to get us out of making things worse.
Again, I don't follow the logic of this. I think what you are basically implying is that QE is the solution to QE. And that anything else is pain and should be avoided. Which is precisely the way of thinking that needs to be obliterated from orbit by the Fed if they aren't cowards.

I didn't know that. I thought it was just the price of a contract for any particular strike. Though I guess that they account for the ext value of an option, eg a $5.00 strike call against a $12 underlying would have $5 intrinsic value, plus $7 worth of greeks.

What I'm mostly doing is trying to figure out how to construct a given position, in this case, delta-gamma hedging and seeing if it's viable to be short theta and/or vega. The tricky part is that gamma changes over time and needs rebalancing.
If everything is mean reverting, what is the mean value for IV? Is that the (realized) HV? Seldom does volatility decrease below that, I would expect any instance of IV>HV to be always decreasing vega

when will the biden administration finally crack and quit the green meme bullshit and actually change their energy policy on our access to oil? i mean, don't they basically have to at some point or things will just get worse and worse until people riot because they literally can't even afford to go to work and the economy completely collapses? like, they HAVE to, right? i know people are gonna joke about this but im serious, like, surely the plan can't just be to let gas prices continue to spiral out of control indefinitely, there's only so much the average person can take. you can maybe get away with that shit when times are good, but not when the world is headed towards catastrophe like it is now.

I'm guessing there’s just more money to be made in building shitty solar panels and wind turbines.

Yes they have to turn things around at some point because you can't print energy.
But at the moment they're doing SPR releases while trying to blame oil companies and Putin for the high prices, but it's not going to work.
Everyone with any brain activity knows that we're globally in this shit because of emotion driven green politics which led to no one investing into real energy infrastructure and people are calling the politicians out for their bullshit.

Now it's just a game of how long they can push this before things reach a breaking point.
Beautiful thing about this is that even if they did a total 180 on their laws and scrapped green energy politics, it would still take at least few years to get the energy commodity extraction going along with building the infrastructure.
And that's if there's even enough material to build that shit due to supply shortages. I recall hearing there was a pipe shortage in Canada a while ago.
My guess is that the best thing they can do is to try and crank the other energy forms to an overdrive to try and reduce oil usage, but I'm not sure if that's even possible.
I also expect them to start pushing really hard for nuclear, because it's the only form of green energy that's not flat out shit. They have to do that if they want to keep any form of green politics alive in the near future.

There are only 69 million boomers in the USA, there are 76-84 million Millennials. The boomercaust only affects the Chinese and Koreans because there's 2+ boomers for every 1~ non-boomer, due to 1 child policy and the fact South Korea has 5 times the people as Sweden but only 2 times the births.

AI replacing jobs is probably overstated, it goes against every trend of industrialization in history. Saying it'll be different now isn't a good enough reason, I think more than anything people will be working but not being paid enough for whatever new jobs come to fruition. That's really it.

That is true, the US has pretty good demographics all things considered but not ideal. Boomers retiring and dying off here will just fuck our pension and health care systems compared to say Italy where their population will literally be half of what it is now by 2100.

The problem with the USA isn't that boomers outnumber the young but that the boomers put in place policies which will (and are) bankrupting the the next several generations so that their pensions stay well funded. It's a different deal and I imagine in 15 years when we reform pensions so that old people are on a fixed fucking income like their grandparents instead of buying another sports car so they can have an "end of life crisis" there will be mass kvetching about ungrateful kids/grandkids/great-grandkids.

they didn't "decide". the "pill" was invented in 1950. for the rest of human history before that they didn't have a choice when it came to pregnancy, but that's what allowed humanity to keep existing, so idk. to some degree i don't blame them, as a guy pregnancy looks fucking horrificly painful. but we're also gonna deal with demographic collapse so idk, i wish the world governments weren't so shitty and actually encouraged making families instead of the literal opposite with welfare and single mother households and whatnot.

but basically the birth control pill is what started the downfall in this regard.
