it means in downturns you lose a little bit to volatility drag aka

100$ > goes down 10% you have 90$ > goes up 10% you have 99$.

leverage amplifies these small little losses. if you go from 100$ to 50$, you need 100% gain from 50 to 100, to break even. be aware

That's some Gender and BIPOC Studies tier sophistry, "anon." And the entire point of this conversation is Ramanujan's freakish intuition, just to remind your low-attention span, room temp IQ zoomie ass. Doesn't change the fact that you can just test that equation yourself to know that it's true

yeah mathchad here
ramanujan was mostly novelty
the average person processes, organizes, and archives a similar volume of similarly complex information in their routine life.
you gotta remember that ramanujan's only entertainment and self-gratification was math stuff but he had limited access to it, so the only novelty he could find with the fundamentals was to explore obscure territory that you mentioned.
really no different than a sci-fi fan obsessively reading anything he could find, running out, and having to make up his own sci-fi fantasy world to explore in his head. which is more common than you'd think.

that mathy compulsion manifests in a lot of people, but they usually have the access to specialize in something that scratches the itch better. ramanujan was scratching his itch with a dull stick so he just had to keep scratching all day long and still be unsatisfied.

you could imagine some hermit living in the remote woods. he'd know the terrain around him better than anyone else in the world because he's the only one who lives there. if cartographers came along and wanted to map that area, they'd probably find him to be a valuable resource and could help them make a better map than they could on their own. that doesn't mean the hermit revolutionized cartography by doing something no other cartographer knew how to do. it's just a matter of where your resources are invested, and ramanujan's resources were invested in the obscure pockets of math that nobody chose to explore.
the same could be said of teddy kaczynski. "only a handful of mathematicians in the world could understand his dissertation, and even fewer could truly appreciate it" not because of the complexity but just the obscurity.

fwiw i like them both just fine and did find ted's paper pretty good.
i do personally think that anyone has a unique enough vantage point to make meaningful contributions to mathematics if they wanted to though.
but how do they profit off of it?

Just imagine how bad things would be with that orange racist bigot still in office. The NASDAQ would be down over 90% and we would all be speaking Chinese or Russian. The recession is fake news. In all seriousness I do expect it to pop again due to the fuckery happening with the artificial lack of supply due entirely to retarded policy decisions causing an artificial increase in price, but anyone shilling oil is holding bags. As evidenced by your own post earlier;
>anything above 100$ is insanely profitable for oil companies
Which I already know because I'm in Texas and shit gets noticeably better around here when oil prices go up. But it cannot stay that high without aforementioned fake and gay restrictions on supply, which create high prices, which are funneling money back to the government to build a war chest, because we're almost certainly going to have a major conflict this decade unless some insane shit shakes out in the ongoing (actively happening right fucking now) economic and cold/cyber wars.

Can you faggots stop comparing US to Japan? It's not even remotely the same, I won't go back to repeating the differences between them economically again because clearly you fags throws it all under the bus just to doompost a week later. Japan had a boom and bust because their entire fucking country is declining, and if you look at the US only statistically (because I know everyone will sperg out about crime, niggers and spics) it's literally picture perfect, most countries on earth could only dream of having such a stable increase across the board. . It's currently 80:1. Always been money. Inflation protection. Manufacturing use far exceeds any other precious metal. Has health benefits. Makes a pretty sound when you tink it.

Those are the reasons most people like it. For me it's something I can collect that will never lose value and could gain greatly. So I convert 10% or so of my cash into metals and it reduces our balance sheet but increases our stores. Can't really do that with anything physical except gold and silver. Gonna be hard for these Indian producers to buyback, grow, or do anything considering the new tax is equivalent to $40/bbl hitting them out of nowhere. I don't know the specifics of India, but in the US no one was seriously investing in future projects at a realized price of $60/bbl. The only growth at that price point between 2015-2019 was shale ponzis trying to escape the gravity of bankruptcy as their existing production fell off a cliff due to short duration wells.

This news marks another 1 mil bpd of production that's officially being robbed of all profits and completely disincentivised from ever growing in this hated industry. Bullish for the remaining producers I suppose, although why would anyone, anywhere invest in oil knowing they could lose everything to a windfall tax overnight?
They might as well just nationalize all oil production, if profits are banned anyway.
