Id love a good top ten oracle index minus Link to invest in as a hedge. Will probably just buy bags of a few of them otherwise, one of them is bound to outperform link even if they are total shit in comparison. Look at all the garbage L1s that outdid Ethereum during the bull

It’s common knowledge that 90% of LINK OG’s came from /pol/, and are thus unironic Nazis and extremely racist. This is evident when you look at the chats whenever Chainlink presents at conferences such as consensus or smartcon. It’s always N word this, N word that.

I personally don’t want to put my money into a project like that and keep that sort of company. Moreover, I question the intelligence of people who shill LINK given their backwards and racist political views.

UMA is actually used and gives about a 40% apy for voting on chain. Oracles are used by across (very good layer2 bridge), polymarket (decentralized predictions markets) and others. The price action is extremely volatile too. I'd say it's undervalued.

oohhhh linkies!
the oracle today revealed to the world the fat russian that runs this scam.
price has already tanked five percent.
once it breaks through the 4 dollar resistance the panic will begin and small holders and speculators will begin to offload, with the whales already long gone.
once it shoots through the 1$ mark, unabated fear will ripe through all linkies, with all those who dumped their current accounts into this scam twitching their fingers continuously while refreshing binance.
the 1$ mark will be met, the largest panic in history will ensue.
the final deluded nodes will begin to go offline, and wagecuckers with their engineering salaries loaded up in link will be left with it stuck in their wallet, unable to move it to binance to salvage some self-respect.
the price will tank at this point to sub 0.22c, and most probably sub i.c.o. levels.
from that day forward the stinky linkie wagecucking nerds who bought this coin thinking it had fundamentals will go back to their jobs, with no money in their current accounts, to be made redundant by the next wave of pajeets arriving to undercut their wages.
stinky linkies will hold bags forever, with no job, no money, and no crypto.
i warned you linkies. there’s still time to get out. sell now. don’t be stinky, don’t be a linkie.

The only real competitor is Pyth and that's because they are backed by Jump, a huge quant firm with ties to the Alameda mafia, except they're not a crypto native entity and it shows, their oracles aren't decentralized and have failed multiple times already, but when they will launch their own token I believe it'll become the second biggest oracle by mcap.

They have huge firms as their data providers but their architecture is retarded and they built on Solana which is a failure chain. They have the blank checks and industry cloud/connections but no in-house savoir face and poor crypto-native recognition/reputation, so while they can do well in the Sol ecosystem or other ecosystem their VCs co-own and can strong-arm VC funded projects to adopt their oracles, they'll do poorly in the wider ecosystem. It's such an artificial and astroturfed and cutthroat project whereas Link is succeeding organically, by putting security above all else, remaining truly neutral and not diverting focus.

Same logic, they saw Link was building CCIP so they just bought out a centralized bridge (Wormhole) and their plan is to somehow stitch Pyth and Wormhole together despite centralized and different architectures, whereas CCIP has been logically designed to fit with the wider Chainlink architecture, it shows they're just aggressively funding and rushing poorly thought out solutions to market, and I think it shows their general weakness, while Jump is still printing shitloads through their quant operations, Wormhole massively fucked up and they had to bail it out for hundreds of millions in losses, and they were also huge backers of Terra which blew up in their faces.

While the Pyth team is still clearly incompetent and if it does a token it'll blatantly be a VC scam to fuck retail over it's backed by legit serious money makers, while other crypto-native oracles are pure amateur hour which is why Chailink dominated with zero competition. Everything else is a joke.

and how do you identify faults in [aggregated] API data, and then punish just one API provider whose data is bad
if adapters are needed to make API or other website data useful, how do you incentivize the creation and upkeep of those adapters
how do users ensure that developers have ensured that risk does not fall on the protocol in the form of an alterable API
the "singular point of failure" concern that comes with APIs does not just go away, strictly because some very valuable data currently isn't trustlessly quantified at its source; capitulating to that standard isn't something you have to do

even private data, i.e. data with signatures and deal disclosures that only one entity currently has access to, will eventually *have* to be open to reading and verification by parties on-request, even if just to nodes that access this data with any risks that might cause it to leak unencrypted eliminated; major institutions will want this, to verify that any other major institutions they're dealing with aren't explicitly eliciting power over them though lying about their holdings
even just having a limited number of major institutions viewing and verifying the correctness of one-another's trustlessly-collected data isn't enough to protect against a totally corrupt industry, though, and so more nodes (neet nodes, even) are needed to collect and verify the same data
are businesses going to fear theft from their peers? yes, and they have every reason to. in the grand scheme of things, you have no idea how small the importance of your interests are on an international stage; it falls on you to further and defend them.

tl;dr the entire concept of the API has to be re-though, and chainlink is the only viable candidate doing work that can address this
everyone else is effectively in the same place of complacency to the problem of data providers having access to data before it's published in an API
