I should mention that I run my own marketing agency that I consult other e-commerce businesses through and run my own e-commerce business (I actually sell real products that I've designed, have sourced and have have made here in America, no Chinese plastic garbage) and also drive and convert traffic as an affiliate marketer which doubles up as reconnaissance and feedback on how I can implement strategies for myself and the business I consult. I make 10x more money than any senior dev code monkey I worked under with 10x less stress. "muh startup path" has been glamorized and gassed up to be something it isn't. Been there done that.

I'm about 90% right now too, but gave up due to depression.

I've only made $50.43 from it so far. Is this a win? I don't know it is better than nothing huh, I could have never imagined myself making money for myself. that barely pays for server bills. I'm at the point where I need to scale pretty massively in order to have a chance with it. My goal would be like 3K per month. But recession is probably here and might kill my dream of making it.

I can feel OPs photo. My fathers funeral felt like an out of body experience. Youve always realized humans are mortal, but it's something else entirely to know the death of your father. Going to the funeral felt unreal, like I was going to some high school band concert I didn't want to play in. Met with all of my dad's friends, some guys I hadn't seen in close to 2 decades. I didn't even know my dad was that close to so many people. Of course I drank myself retarded afterward and made an ass out of myself. Mostly due to realizing everything my mother told me about my father (they divorced when I was 12) was an absolute lie. She made me hate my father for most of my childhood. A month before he died from a terrible liver cancer caused by exposure to agent Orange in his time in Vietnam, a man that stood at 6'5" reduced to 130lbs, I got to tell him I wish I grew up living with him instead. It's been a few years since his passing, but it never really does get easier thinking about it, so mostly I don't. The dreams I have of him being alive leave me in tears waking up though. The best archive I have now is my Google chat history with him. We used to send messages to each other every day. I just wish he could've see his grandkids grow up. When I think if his life I'm amazed at how far I'm through mine.
Either way, my point is life is short. Stop wasting it on bullshit. Find a goal and achieve it.

I finished my coding project I thought was a billion dollar idea, did some advertising but turns out nobody wants to use it lol. But I used the project/experience to get a job in software dev. Just put the project on your linkedin as if it were a job and tell recruiters you worked on projects to hone your dev skills. Got me a job within 2 weeks. Interviewing is a numbers game and I was talking to at least 5 recruiters a day. I had no previous professional experience, just projects

I'm nearly 4 years into a tech startup as employee #1 and lead dev (after 10 years of non startup experience)

In that time I've learned that my idea of just building out the tech and the rest would happen on it's own is completely misguided. It's taken so much work to pitch it, to capture a market, to build b2b relationships, to figure out how the b2b2c relationship even works, to operate the customer service side, to pivot, to build new products, to grow the team, to pitch it all again 18 months later, to optimise ppc, to write content to become an authority, to raise a 3rd round 18 months after the last, to go to industry events to grow our network, to go through due diligence for investors, regulators and partners, to building those partnerships in the first place.

All of that is work done by everyone else in the company who isn't me (and I'm probably ignorant of a lot more that goes on without my involvement). If it was just my contribution we'd have a bunch of tools that don't have product market fit and no users and no revenue.

I'm glad I've got this experience now, I won't be making the mistake of trying to start my own startup in the future without a non-technical co-founder. You need someone who's got the gift of the gab, a good network, and at least some know-how of how fundraising and VC works.

tl;dr "build it and they will come" probably doesn't apply to your idea devbros
