Honestly curious: if you don't already own some chainlink, why not?

The upcoming releases of staking and ccip are guaranteed to put it back in the top 5. It's gonna be the ruling routing layer of the multi chain world AND token holders will actually directly capture value from the billions secured and thousands of dapps using it. It's such a no brainer at this point.

I am so thankful I got fully linkpilled in 2018 during the bear market and when the signal-to-noise ratio was optimal. Constant 300+ replies threads exploring potential use cases and daily breadcrumbs research, it was biz at its peak and in these unique conditions, so many forged crazy dreams and iron convictions.

Today it's impossible for a newfag to get immersed in this deep level of conversation, and therefore to grasp the full reach of its potential. It so easily gets overlooked, ignored, disregarded, because so much of the noise in the space is meaningless, og's (enjoying their success or simply waiting patiently) have internalized their insights and ceased discussing as much, therefore exposure to spoonfeeding is minimal.

In 2018, partaking in link threads was a genuinely surreal experience. A small autistic community had uncovered the opportunity of a lifetime, it wasn't just a "what if" possibility, but surrounded with absolute certitude, this was "the one". The most surreal aspect that if you did the research and understanding, you knew it was as real as it could get, but literally no one was talking about it anywhere else.

4 years later and all the og's just remain confident for the long term. All these countless hours digging into the oracle problem, smart contract use cases, understanding the implications of chain agnosticism, middleware adoption, tokenomics, etc. But for a casual observer, all they see is the weak short term price action, and it doesn't incentivize them to research further. "Oh, it's just another token like all the others, what's so different about this?". "Oracles and agnosticism? Sounds like techno babble, I don't get it, what does it do that Cardano can't do?".

With staking and CCIP on the horizon, everything will change. Everything. The switch will be flipped, big time. No one will be able to keep ignoring it. Either start research right now, or you'll be late. It's inevitable.

There was a thread even a long time ago that wasn’t isolated to link but was one of the funniest threads I had ever been in. It was all of us posting psychologist memes with captions acknowledging how delusional we were yet we all didn’t take everything so seriously
But the thing is we all still couldn’t stop talking about link, and even until this day most my networth is in ChainLink. even through the ups and downs, making a ton of money outside of ChainLink from building a startup that got sold, I immediately bought more link at the time. We all knew then that this was something unique and special, and to be honest, that feeling hasn’t gone even if the community and threads did. I used to even kek from the “OOOOOO LINKIIIIESSSS” threads after Google / Coinbase pump in 2019 experiencing our first euphoria then crash

I saw your thread earlier that got deleted within minutes.
Either this is OC that you wrote that you've got queued up to post like this, or it's copypasta.

Either way, what you speak is truth.

>> No.49965120

I typed this up in another thread that got deleted minutes later. It's slightly relevant so here it is again.

I've spent hours and hours explaining Link to people who have been involved in crypto since 2017 and they simply couldn't grasp it. In fact they couldn't even really understand the point of smart contracts, let alone the infrastructure to make smart contracts useful.
In contrast, there are other people I've explained the problem to who knew nothing of crypto whatsoever, but had a strong intuitive understanding of business and finance. They on the other hand just got it. Almost immediately. They followed up with poignant questions, each one essentially boiling down to "what makes this valuable". People who knew nothing of crypto asking exactly the right questions, relating to tokenomics, supply, demand, utility, security, you name it.
The point I think I'm getting at is that some people will get it and some people won't. Don't assume the people already balls deep in crypto are particularly knowledgeable about the finer aspects of it. Don't assume they are smarter than those who have yet to dip their toes. There are a lot of nerds with tunnel vision who are extremely susceptible to propaganda, emotional manipulation, and are generally incompetent when it comes to managing their finances. This is why you have people who cling to technology that is obviously worthless, staunchly refusing to budge on their beliefs even an inch. Head over to the subreddit of any long forgotten crypto for a sad illustration of this.
Crypto is full of dumb money. You should be thankful of this. It can try our collective patience at times but it means that the competitive edge between those who see and those who don't is collosal. In time the financial edge will grow to the same extent.

Not a very sophisticated FUD. First of all this is not accurate, the feeds are actually controlled by 4-of-9 multisig on gnosis. Second of all, this issue is not related to Chainlink protocol or node software, but only to currently offered (free) price feeds. It's an open protocol and Chainlink are offering those feeds for free, it's their gift to the community, but the protocol itself can be (and is!) used for actually fully decentralized applications with oracle networks not being controlled by Chainlink Labs at all.

Two scenarios will play out:

1. It will work:

For this to happen LINK will have to be extremely cheap because businesses, individuals, governments, etc. will require high frequency data requests.

2. It won't work: Here's some reasons why it won't work. Oracles are not needed when there is only one data source, by default it's correct. And if there is more than one data source, nodes will have to reach a consensus on which is the correct one. These nodes can collude (without getting slashed or losing their collateral) by simply gathering behind closed doors and agreeing what the truth is. You see, nodes only get punished if they diverge out in the open. This scenario could very well play out in high-stakes scenarios like elections. (eg. Trump wins again) Look who the nodes are:

Good afternoon, sir. My name is Dan Christopher from California, United States office of Chainlink Labs. OP is totally right with respect to LINK you know.
We are only months away from one of the biggest feature releases of the project life. The feature coming out soon which is called “CyberCode 2.0„. As an insider I know you folks have no idea what/the importance of CyberCode 2.0 is gonna be for LINK when it releases around the end of April next year (give or take a few months) so I will spoonfeed you out of kindness of heart:

CyberCode 2.0 secures the ledger cryptographically to encode transactions at 20x magnitude of legacy infrastructure. It achieves this by taking blockchain transactions to the BbC-2022 layer and parsing them through the node network incentivized by super linear sequencing which Sergey said is very close to finish line.

The obvious benefits of super fast transaction speeds also brings exponential economies of scale! Soon any business who wants to stay relevant will have to buy LINK to have access to CyberCode 2.0. Those who don’t use this system (powered by LINK) will get left behind. What this means sir is if farmer has 500 Kg cow for sale, he can put the beast to market on the blockchain to verify the weight in a trust less system.

Scammer motherfuckers want you to think that banks and other organizations are not currently fulling their bags with cheap LINK as we speak. In other words, if you hold more than 50 LINK right now, you already made it. Immediately when we breach the $10 resistance from last year it’ll be too late for you. You have been warned, sir. So go buy many LINK for you dream to come true.

>will have to be cheap
Do you mean the unit price of a token will have to be cheap, or that usage will have to be cheap?
If you're saying the former then you're displaying rather an amazing level of ignorance. The token could cost $10,000 but a data request could cost $0.000000000000000001

honestly the only reason LINK holders been hyping it is staking when it was assumed 99% of the tokens will get locked up and the price will moon! Except Chainlink cucked them and limited the staking to 25M at first and then 75M with priority to long holders. So basically no price change will happen since the top 1000 wallets have much more than 75M and they have been holding for waay longer than anyone else (insiders). So for me as a new buyer, there's nothing to look forward to when it comes to LINK either in price action or product use.

Yes its ETH ERC20 compatible. Get a ledger and store it on that. Dont loan your LINK. Dont take photos of your crypto keys, only write it down in a book or something. Make like 3 copies. Keep them safe

Do a test transaction before you sent. Send 0.1 LINK first because if you fuck up and send it to the wrong place, bye bye money

Either Link moons to $100+ and I make it
Or it crabs for another year and you’re given more time to accumulate even though you’ve missed out for the last 5 years.

I empathize with you, but I’ve waited half a decade to make it with Link, and it’s time to cash in.

I still consider myself a noob to crypto so take my word with a grain of salt, but I have traded equities successfully for all my adult life. First of all, I've been almost fully in fiat anyway since Dec/Jan. I know everyone's personal altcoin is immune to market forces and the absolute cluster the global economy is in, but this is just simply not a risk-on environment and the extent of contagion is not yet known.

LINK has been one I've kept a close eye on due to compelling fundamentals, but I can't ignore that has not translated to price action due to delayed rollout of key features (maybe in part due to actions of partners like Ethereum but nonetheless), the absence of which means the TNN memes are basically valid. Others have pointed out LINK has now underperformed as long as it overperformed through 2018-2020. This does imo place more scrutiny on the justification or FUD arround token distribution, the dev wallets, the dumping. Circulating supply is still low relative to other wallets. So far the pattern has been node operators dump LINK immediately into ETH hence price deterioration. That doesn't bode well. I will likely buy a bag of LINK some day but due to my macro outlook it won't be until $3, and will be a small single digit % of my port.

LINK holder rationalisations come off desperate and the possibility for any asset to make a countermarket move in these conditions is extremely small, reminds me of that quote about extraordinary claims requiring extraordinary evidence. The current narrative hypes v0.1 staking, a beta version with 1 price feed and zero other services, as causing a 10x move within the year which I believe is mainly a result of holders wanting to dump and regretting not having done so last year, not a recipe for success and basically delusional to the macro reality.
