I got into Celsius relatively early and, at that point, Mashinsky way saying that their business model was to loan our tokens to large institutional investors whom would in turn provide collateral in excess of the amount borrowed. As such, I was under the impression that even if the loan went south, they'd recoup it via the collateral. Instead, it seems that it was was Celsius itself directly interacting with DeFi protocols using customer-provided assets and using it as collateral to take out loans for interest payments and additional leverage. Literally the exact opposite of what they said they were doing.

It comes down to what % of their institutional lending in insolvent (3AC etc.), how much their losses on DeFi hacks/LUNA/Bancor IL put them in the negative, and how much of their assets are from secured creditors (seems to be little to none). As far as Goldman Sachs goes, it's not immediately clear as to whether they are looking to buy convertible debt at a steep discount plus their mining business, or their digital assets outright (which makes no sense to sell at a discount vs. going OTC with any exchange, and which goes against fiduciary responsibility)
Right now you're looking at:
$6-8 billion in AUM based on market depreciated value of their previous $11 billion figure
with $1.7 billion known to be liquid (on-chain)
$100-300 MM bankruptcy cost
So most of the question mark comes down to their institutional lending ("off-chain" assets). Let's say they lost $500 MM to 3AC of their $4-6 billion. Of what's left, they may end up selling at a steep discount to Goldman Sachs (at least the better debt) for $2 billion. The question them comes to whether or not they can recoup the rest of the debt with recalls or sales. It's looking like a 40% payout on the back based on these numbers, but the worst part is that they may stick to giving dollar-value for assets at some arbitrarily decided date.

This got me thinking ...
Do these CeFi lenders bankrupting mean there's fewer circulating tokens now?
I mean if you don't have your 25k LINK anymore, and they don't have it anymore, is it just gone?

The answer is, no! Of course not!
They already sold your LINK to someone else.
They literally stole the money that you gave them and sold it to someone else.

This doesn't only screw you (although it screws you the hardest), but it also screws all of us ... these chucklefucks at Celsius or Bancor or Nexo or whatever - they're selling tokens that really should have just been sitting in a wallet somewhere, safe. Because that's what you probably thought they were ... safe ... but no, these motherfucks are out there, circulating tokens, inflating the supply, and fucking all of us on the price.

you guys are greedy fucking idiots for putting any meaningful amount of money into this scam, I have no sympathy for you
imagine advertising 7% yield on ETH/BTC deposits when trad banks are offering sub 0.005% for your money and that not being a major red flag
10%+ return on staking alt coins. Even 15%+ for some coins. How can you read that and have no questions unless you have absolutely no concept of yield? "Oh sure it's crypto and fiat is trash and jews and tech blah blah blah that's why this internet bank is able to pay me 100x the interest rate I would get at a regular bank"
For you to put your life savings into this, and not even one time ask yourself, "how can this company guarantee me market beating returns with zero risk?", makes me question how you ever put yourself in such a position to have that much money to lose in the first place. Luck, probably. Except you made the same mistake as the guy who hit big first hand at the blackjack table in Vegas made and kept playing under the impression you could earn free money forever, with the same results.
If you had even one time asked yourself this question and looked into the company you would have realized that these exorbitant "safe returns" are generated off a mountain of risky investments and insane amounts of leverage, a mountain that has come crashing down with the recent crypto losses. Instead you allowed yourself to be mesmerized by a glorified con artist and an amateur pornstar. Sad.

Many altcoins offer 10%+ APY because unlike most banks the devs can print money and set aside a batch of the ICO as rewards to encourage users to stake and secure the network. It's not an absurd amount of interest in the crypto world. It's not even an absurd amount of interest in the banking world, I was earning around 10% interest on savings accounts when I was a kid. Online savings accounts were offering over 2% just a couple years ago before the scamdemic. Banks could provide greater returns, they charge people like 20% interest on their credit card loans, then pocket 19% and give the customers who provide them with reserves and liquidity a fraction of the profit. Crypto lenders have similar interest rates but far less regulation and overheard eating into their expenses, but they do have to deal with more marker volatility.

"Vulture hedge funds" make money by taking out massive short positions on struggling companies, force the company into bankruptcy, and then cash their shorts when the stock literally goes to 0.

GME's price exploded because when Citadel and other vulture hedge funds tried to short it to death, Blackrock stepped in and bought the fuck out of GME to cause a short squeeze.

Vulture hedge funds have zero interest in rebuilding a company. Anyone who says otherwise is a liar.
