It is critical to understand this part tho: QE can and does make broad money, not just base money. The bond bulls will never admit this hence you need to be skeptical of everything they say. They're ideologues.

the key point from that article is that much of the QE 2008-2020 did not flow into assets either, it just went into bank reserves. this makes sense, given that one of the big issues of the 2008 crisis was that banks were overleveraged on their reserves, so QE was applied to deleverage the banking sector.
i don't think this cash will ever leave reserves either, since the fed does certainly not want to go back to the days of overleveraged banks.

i think the M2 yoy graph is misleading; there are plenty of 10% bumps in that graph after recessions before 2008. the M2 trend stayed pretty constant during those years, compared to the recent covid spike. the same is true for the trend in deposits (constant trend), while reserves spiked considerably.
i don't find this sufficiently convincing to argue that early QE leaked into M2.

This is only possible if you had multiple millions of dollars of wash sale losses in December, like upwards of $10 million. The fact that he had that kind of money to gamble on day trading at all is also something to think of.
