By insisting he accept their stocks as real
By insisting he was never to his shares tied
By dictating exactly what he might feel
By permitting fear but never pride
They believed an ape could be brought to heel
That an ape could from his GME be pried
That the ape himself would learn to kneel
That an ape would not care even if his shares died
That the ape himself would accept such a "deal"

In the end it was only to themselves they had lied.

there are a lot of causes, the causes interact with each other and create feedback loops where they reinforce one another
>1: short selling stock
when someone wants to short the market, they have to borrow the shares (money) from someone, sell them immediately on the open market, and at some point, they will need to buy to cover the shares they borrowed, and return them to the lender - at different stages / price targets, short sellers are willing to take profits on their short positions. When they buy the shares to cover their short, it rallies the stock / market
>2: long puts
arguably, it is this section that is the most important, the most influential in how markets move and create bear market rallies. Whenever someone buys a put, the market maker they bought the put from needs to short shares of stock proportional to the delta of the put they sold. When these puts close, the market maker(s) are able to buy back the shares they sold short = vanna/charm rally. the biggest dates for puts to expire are on the quarterly expirations, March, June, September, December, 3rd Friday of the month
(this last option expiration for example had the largest puts expiring since March 2020)
>3: Fundamentals changing
the market is hopeful, and always overreacts to the upside; if news breaks that is bullish, the market can stage a bear market rally, although the overall trend is greatly down. For example, if news were to come out that China is ending their lockdowns - the markets would rally (but this is not a big enough fundamental change to reverse from bear market to bull market, just a bear market rally catalyst)
>4: Prices get low enough to where it interests more buyers than sellers
if a stock is down 80% it becomes a lot more attractive for people to go long, than to go short
it reaches a point where people look at a low stock price and go "I'm not buying here.. but I'm not selling here either.." - when this scale tips to inaction, instead of more selling = rally

>> No.49866677

>>49866659
>>49866310
all of these things interact and feed off of each other - where because some fundamental news breaks, shorts decide to cover, which forces the puts to cover, which forces the MM to cover = bear market rally
this is not even factoring in the buy side, that people see the stock rising, see the market bottoming, and buy in / go long
this squeezes the shorts even more, forcing even more covering

none of that is wrong but it has nothing to do with mortgage rates- its an inverse of RIETS (or w/e) so while yes, many are priced out- there is still players with money. That will keep the inventory low. It will go up, but outside of swing trading and maybe some risk mitigation it wont preform AS well as people hype it. -IMO

How dollar-cost averaging works.

Assume a tranny investor, Brenda, wants to invest $100 a month from her pay. As shown in the table below:

• The price of one mutual fund share is $10 in April, $15 in May and $13 in June

• Brenda purchases $100 worth of shares each month, at the price-per-share noted above

• By using dollar-cost averaging, Brenda ends up with 24.4 shares at an average cost of $12.32

• This makes her "average cost per share" 35 cents lower than the "average price per share" because Brenda's fixed monthly investment buys more shares when prices are lower.

A short is selling stock you don't own. Think of it like owning negative shares of a stock.
A put is a contract giving you the right to sell 100 shares of a stock at a particular price on or before a specific date.

Short: https://optionstrat.com/build/short-stock/SPY/x-100

>this friday we might see more of this rally?
no one knows
but there is some potential legs behind this rally, potential for light short squeezing, based upon option expiration and shorting activity
spotgamma put out a good video covering it today
https://youtu.be/wdvqQL_Of4s
1:38 onward particularly interesting
>whats the difference between a short and a put?
a short is stock, a put is options
short = you borrow shares from someone else, sell them immediately on the open market, if the price of the shares goes down you buy the shares back for less than you sold them for, return them back to the lender (plus interest for the loan)
so for example you short 100 shares of SPY at $370, the price falls to $360, you make $10 x 100 profit
put = you buy a contract from someone else (who is willing to sell the contract to you for premium - think of it like buying an insurance contract, but for stock) where they will buy 100 shares from you at a designated 'strike' price - for example, you buy a put for SPY for this friday for $360 - if the price of SPY were to fall to $350, you would be able to buy 100 shares for $350 on the open market, and then sell them to the person who sold you the put contract for $360 each ($10 x 100 shares profit, minus the premium you paid for the put contract)
