the best way to store value in that time is to use that silver to learn shit you will need to know during the end. skills like hunting, farming, drug gardening, medicine, electrical engineering, whatever. any knowledge that will make you more valuable alive than dead to your community. you will make many allies and have great leverage in bartering. just having a bunch of silver laying around will make you a target.

In such apocalyptic scenarios gold bullions and coins won't be much good, but a after a few years, it will have some value. Maybe less than what you've paid, but never zero.

Human interest in gold has always existed. I don't think it will ever stop existing.
