>(1+2*x)*(1-2*x) = 1 - 4*x^2.
The(-) in front of the 4*x^2 gives you a synthetically short vol position. Enjoy getting chopped to death by this arithmetic when ICE semis goes above the "200 DMA".
Your equation is contrived assuming 6 sigma events happening every day for months on end. How about you go look at the implied volatility and the historical volatility for all the leveraged indexes one by one and plug the daily volatility numbers into the equation to see the actual likely outcome. I encourage you to assume 2 and 3 daily standard deviation events if that makes you feel better. Remember divide annual historical volatility by the square root of the number of days (252). Report back with the results

Yeah...
Poland is filled with German production plants, most of the western european manufacturing and production got exported to east european EU countries because of cheap labour.
Ukraine is and was always just a meaningless and extremely corrupt proxy country to act as a buffer to Russia. Sure it has good land for agriculture, but it's not as strategically important as the news and ecelebs wants you to believe.
If Russia invaded any EU country they would get assfucked in a day.

Im not too sure about the grocery store business. I dont know enough about the field and I feel that, while they are responsible for the distribution of basic foodstuff, most of their income comes from luxury goods. Shit like exotic/semi-exotic fruits, yogurt, sweets, etc. This class of good would certainly go on the red if we face a bad recession, But historically they have done well, but Im not too sure about how these markets developed in the last decade. I will look into their earning calls to see for a breakdown of their income by class, though.
>>49766272
But Im talking about an impending probably increase in cashflow in a moment in which other companies will see a considerable contraction. The question is whether this factor will perform well against the tightening of interest rates/debt curves and the increased costs due to inflationary pressures.

what would you say is the equivalent in options trading? ultra low risk, low reward, just going in and out so i know the mechanics of a simple strategy. seems like videos and materials i watch want me to go higher stakes off the bat -- unless what i'm looking for is just not possible?

Okay with futures you have a few choices of what you want to invest in. You can buy index futures which track major world indexes like the S&P, German DAX, Nikkei, etc., there are currency futures for trading the Euro, Yen, Swiss Franc, etc. against the dollar, you have energy futures for oil, natural gas, etc., precious metals Gold, Silver, etc. so-called "softs" like lumber, livestock, and there are grains futures for wheat, corn, and all that. Within these categories there are a lot of different specific things you can buy and sell.
For low risk straightforward trading let's say you're bullish on equities since another bear market rally is imminent. The cheapest, lowest risk index future you can buy is the Euro STOXX 50 micro contract. The value of a single contract of that is around $4000 and the smallest amount you can buy is 1 contract, no fractional stuff.
So you open a futures account with Interactive Brokers or TDAmeritrade and you want to buy a single micro STOXX 50 contract and you don't want to use leverage because you want maximum safety. Open the account and deposit $4000 in it. Then buy the contract just like you would buy a stock or ETF.
If you wanted 2x leverage you could buy 2 contracts for a notional value of $8000 and since you have deposited $4000 you are effectively 2x leveraged. In futures the maximum leverage is going to be anywhere from 20x to 200x depending on the broker.
Index futures contracts expire quarterly in Mar, Jun, Sep, and Dec. So right now you would buy the Sep contract and if you wanted to hold past the expiration date in Sep, just before that date you would sell your contract and immediately rebuy the same contract in Dec. You can continue this for as long as you want, decades even just selling the expiring contract and buying the next contract.
Think of futures contracts similar to ETFs except the minimum size is much larger and there are tax advantages. The downside being you have to roll the contract quarterly

i see. this makes a lot of sense to me anon, i liked how you explained it.

a shame though, so basically the minimum i have to put up is $4k for the cheapest contract it seems. hmm, i will be more careful then even if it's as low risk low reward as you say.

if you still have some time, can you go through with me how exactly does margin factor into this in greater detail? say i put in $4k, and i time it wrong, the bear continues. i imagine the contract value would be then $3500 for example -- am i money due?

or is it just based on the broker, well i know regulation is at least $2k for margin so that must be the floor. but if the contract moves in my favor, the contract gets to $4500, is that $500 immediately available or is it on hold or something? or i have to sell to close like an options contract to realize it before it's really mine?

thank you by the way for even entertaining my question, i am realistically looking into currency or world index futures for additional context

Depends on how you play. DCA is the most solid method to deal with bear markets assuming you have buying power somehow. Past that a good strategy is to use options, selling calls, selling puts, buying longer term ones, and harvesting theta.

The most important thing though is buying the right companies or indexes at lows, cheaply. There is a lot of opportunity and risk here.

No problem. Margin requirements for different contracts are set by the respective exchange, in the case of Euro STOXX 50 that would be Eurex and the minimum margin to hold a single contract is currently $354. If you had $354 in your account and bought a single contract worth $4000 you would be effectively 10x leveraged. If the contract goes down $1 then you lose $1 of your deposit so now you have $353. If the Euro STOXX 50 contract you are holding goes down $354 and you only deposited that much you lose all your money and will receive a margin call to deposit more funds. Behind the scenes the money is "marked to market" at the end of everyday and sent back and forth between traders who are long or short against each other but on a practical basis your account goes up and down in real time throughout the day based on the performance of the contract you're holding.
Margin isn't really any more complicated than that from your perspective. If you want 10x leverage, deposit the minimum, buy one contract and that's what you get. If you want 1x then deposit the current value of a single contract and only buy one contract. If you do that then you can hold the contract forever (albeit rolling quarterly as noted above) and for every dollar the contract gains or loses your balance will go up or down that amount.
The shuffling of money between winners and losers is done automatically behind the scenes and you have no real input on that nor should it really matter. Your contract goes up, your account grows, it goes down, you lose and it's all real time just like with stocks.
The main advantage with how margin works in futures is the fact that you can leverage to your heart's content. With some contracts, e.g., the micro Nasdaq contract you can get a leverage of closer to 15x if you want. Some treasuries have close to 100x available.

Trading regular futures like how I'm outlining is very similar to trading ETFs like I mentioned before. The advantages though are you can short as easily as you go long by simply selling a contract instead of buying. Taxes are a combination of short term and long term rates and you don't have to keep track of each trade, just subtract your account balance at the end from your account balance at the beginning of the year and pay taxes on the difference. Futures trades 23 hours a day 5 days a week so you can catch overnight trades. Futures also has a huge amount of liquidity so you can make million dollar trades at market if you want and not move the price. Futures are also not subject to pattern day trading restrictions. And lastly the leverage in futures makes 3x leveraged ETFs look like nothing if that's how you want to roll
One last thing, futures has options so whatever strategy you are using in equity options works in futures too

You mean the council of rome? At that point NATO and Russia were friendly, yes, but all that happened then was a strengthening of ties, mostly though the existsing partnership for peace project. Russia didnt apply to join nor NATO refused any attempts at integration launched by Russia.
That whole ordeal has been dead in the water since the war in Georgia.
The reason for the breakdown of relations between east and west were changes in the russian duma at around 2004. The real motives behind that are unknown, like I said. Many people speculate that its just petty soviet nostalgic revanchism, who knows.

They had ukraine under their fold back in the pfp days. That wasnt a concern. Maybe the fear of losing ukraine made them become more agressive towards them and, thus, making it a self-fulfilling prophecy, but I dont think they are that dumb.
My personal theory is that it is more of a personal thing. Integrating with NATO inevitably means becoming a more open and transparent society, which translates into companies being more abstract entities like we have in the west instead of the highly personalized institutions of that kind of regime. That would inevitably cut into the economical power or certain corrupt oligarchs who rule Russia.

my understanding with contracts (at least in options trading) is that they get adjusted into new contracts with a new name saying this much is included. or you get more contracts if it's a clean split. either way, from what i gather if the contract becomes the adjusted variety then that may make liquidity harder because people think they're too complicated and don't want to touch it

the example a friend told me is that it's no good if an adjusted contract is worth a million dollars if there's no liquidity to exit it. because then you would either exercise (in which case your acc can't prolly support it) or it expires worthless
