Edit: Since there is no broker to forcefully sell your coins like it would be the case with leverage, who would "sell" your $1000 worth of bitcoin? I mean if you just buy some Bitcoins normally, its price cant drop below 0 so therefor a loss of 100% is the worst that can happen to you, but lets say you short it with those $1000 and you didnt put a stop loss order in place and the price goes from 10000 to 25000 over night, then you would be at a loss of 150% correct?
