The reality is that if you're an extreme outlier in anything odds are that you're brain-dead in most other things, due to the laws of averages and just time-to-greatness. So what most people consider smart (which tend to fall on well rounded individuals, or outliers) is so fucking subjective that there's no easy way to evaluate it. Talk to any high performing stem degree major, most are retarded outside of their field of expertise, and the list goes on. With that being said, wasting your time on a fucking game has to be one of the most lob-sided trades ever, at the very least you get to brag on optics, but the reality is that it's not a display of smartness.

Chess is mostly about pattern recognition (tactics). At higher levels, understanding middle game strategy, memorizing end game theory, and studying openings and sidelines comes into play, but I could literally destroy 95% of /biz/ with queen odds without even trying. Check out the chessnetwork stream of Magnus playing bullet and literally playing troll openings against grandmasters and still winning.
