Can any xmr fag address that claim about someone designing an ASIC a while back and singlehandedly gaining over 51% of the hashpower? I know there's a randomization element now to combat that, but can't they make a more flexible asic and do the same thing and none would be the wiser?

A Monero ASIC already exists and you can buy it off Newegg, it's an AMD Threadripper. RandomX has you execute a broad range of code that only a generalist processor can handle, if some ASIC company wanted to make a product for mining Monero all they would be doing is reinventing a beefy Threadripper.

Based resp. Didn't realize that. Doesn't that cause decentralization issues? Satoshi never wanted asics.

Monero is the only coin that's actually solved mining centralization specifically because it's designed to run off generalist, consumer-grade hardware (calling a Threadripper an ASIC is just a joke) so there's no centralized, race-to-the-bottom mining farms that can be targeted like Bitcoin is prone to. People mine Monero on their gaming PCs, on company computers, you can even mine it on your phone.

>> No.49572726

>>49572494
Also the mining algorithm has been changed before and if somebody ever did manage to make a worthwhile ASIC it would likely just be changed again

That's mostly an academic point as every single one of us will be dead before the last Bitcoin is mined. From a meaningful human perspective both of them are going to continue to inflate and issue new coins for the rest of our lives

>> No.49573191

>>49570223
Every non inflating used currency gets more and more used as a valuestore

With about 1% inflation each, and dead people/lost wallets, there's a real argument that they could go deflationary.
