socialism is the only way for colonized countries to achieve real development. otherwise, they'll remain as the cheap unskilled labor pool of capitalist countries and never develop their own industry; all wealth is extracted to foreign owners. hatred of socialism in the west is purely a way for the capitalist class to manufacture consent for military interventions or coups in the global south when they start getting good ideas.

Capitalism is clearly on the way out at his point like it or not. Italy was and still is one of the youngest nations in Europe.

Before the unification the country was composed by many little states that were at constant war with each other for the better part of a millennia. While other European nations were already unified.

This is why Italy just didn't have the collective industrial might to take full advantage of the industrial revolution and was still pretty much a agriculture based economy.

In addition to this, the country also is just poor in natural resources needed to make steel.
