My theory on the recent 8-K filing:

Gamestop recently announced they have filed form 8-K with the SEC, their reason for it being that they will create 8,000,000 million new shares. These shares are restricted and can only be given to Gamestop's corporate employees.
These shares do not have any effect on the current float and DRS float because they are restricted and only meant for insiders. The only way these shares can have an affect is if they are sold by the insiders who own them, which leaves a couple possibilities.

>1. Insiders are given these shares before MOASS
If these shares are given out in the coming weeks and MOASS occurs right after, won't these employee's not be able to sell the shares during the squeeze? Stock plans usually have a restriction on sales, 90-120 days.

>2. Insiders are given the shares before the release of the marketplace
>3. Insiders are given the shares after MOASS

If corporate knows something is going to happen wouldn't they want to give these shares to their employees before moass so they can capitalize on it? Or maybe they don't because their employee's will become rich and just quit. Or maybe there is a contractual agreement that makes it so employees have to agree to keep working if they accept these shares.
Something else I'd like to note is that when we finally see these shares being given out it might be a sign that something is going to happen soon, it may be the split, marketplace release, or moass.

It's taken us three quarters to DRS 13 million shares, and they just issue an additional 8 million shares just like that. What was the point of all that? Did they deliberately mislead us leading up to the vote so that we'd approve the increase authorized shares?

The dilution is actually extremely bullish and I'll tell you why. The first reason being obviously that if employees are compensated in stock, they are incentivized to improve the value of the company and therefore the stock price. Also, the board would be best advised to ensure no one is manipulating this stock price in any unfair way.

However, there is a second reason, which I think is even more bullish:

Time for some Napkin Math:

8 million shares x $100 stock price = $800 million compensation

8 million shares x $150 stock price = $1,200 million compensation

Time for some history:

Matt Furlong received stock rewards worth roughly $15 million dollars in June 2021. He is the CEO.

Ryan Cohen owns 9,101,000 stocks

Lawrence Cheng owns 8,022 stocks

The new COO Patel Nir Vinay will (or has) received an yet undisclosed amount of shares

So, we can conclude that this is a lot of money and stock. Especially comparing it to what insiders already have or were compensated with.

Now, looking at Apple and Microsoft, we see that an S-8 is usually filed every 3-4 years. I'm not sure what the industry average is, but it is not that important anyway. Because either way spin it, there can only be one thought: The current incentive plan would not make sense (even for 3-4 years) if the board intends to keep the current float and therefore price per stock. For this plan to make sense, the float must increase and the price per share decrease. This means split soon!

TL;DR: Incentive plan with a lot of shares and money is in effect as of today. However, this is way too much in comparison to what insiders already have or were awarded. Only conclusion can be, that we will soon have a split. Because only then the number of shares would make sense. Which in return would mean, that this S-8 was drawn up with the upcoming split in mind!
