Has anyone wondered about Apollo's role in all of this? All of their companies always get shorted to death, but now all of a sudden their redbox stock is pumping up like how AMC did earlier. How do they maintain correlation with shorted stocks if their companies are now net longs being held in swaps against those same stocks? Being in a pair trade against the shorted stocks should break the correlation unless there is something larger driving the correlation, usually this happens because these are companies in the same industry, but the shorted stocks have no basis for a correlation to occur. If this is algorithmic driven, then the 'shorts' that we know of can't be the ones driving the algorithm, they'd have no way to profit,
shorting everything to drive correlation while simultaneously longing those same shorted stocks as a pair trade against an even more concentrated short against one stock. There have to be two separate entities. 'Shorts' as we know them are one side but somebody else, someone larger, is driving the algorithm.
