I would say that at points Tesla was a meme stock, although at this point I don't think it would still qualify as one just based on the fact there aren't as many memes about the stock or company and they're now more focused on just being memes about elon with biases in favor of whatever an individuals perspective is on the guy. I don't think it'd be unfair, whether or not someone loves or hates the guy, to call Elon a meme. I think it's why he has the pull he does. If I had to guess it would be because dividing the shares by 7 won't necessarily divide everyone's sell price by 7. Plus it would give more wiggle room, so there'd be a lot more "Let's keep going and see what happens" shares post-split. A share split would probably double or triple the amount of financial damage this thing causes.
