If it is a prime broker, is the prime broker shorting on behalf of citadel or is citadel the one doing the shorting? Additionally, how do the bona fide naked shorts come into all of this, are they included in the swaps or a whole different beast entirely? It seems insane how they can balance all of these things at once. I know they probably push most long volume through dark pools and ex-clearing so they never have to deliver on those shares, but I find it crazy that they can maintain these massive positions while leaving a relatively clean accounting trail from the public's perspective
