Think of stacking more like a better savings account over a period of 5+ years and less an investment

The really big brain thing to do is set amounts into your investment accounts, keep a cash reserve, then say you'll buy PMs with any additional savings; it gets you into a dragon hoarding mentality and you decrease frivolous spending

They don't have infinite amounts of money because that is a scam and EVERY scam falls apart eventually. Hard to say when. But when the fiat money scam falls apart, people will be looking for something to replace it with. For several thousand years, gold and silver have been the money of choice on this planet. It was only during the post WWII monetary scam that they were demonetized. When the scam breaks (not if, but when) there is a good chance that the world will revert to its ancient tradition and remonetize metals.

>why do you guys keep buying metals?
It's different for everyone, so here are my reasons:
Curiosity. I have a variety of metals, just so I know what they look and feel like.
Preservation of wealth. PMs in particular are a commodity that pretty well retain their value. I don't think of them as an investment, more like a safety. Because of that...
...Art. This means typically Ag, Au, and Pt. I find hundreds of designs really pretty, and I've ended up collecting enough to qualify easily as a 'stacker'. But this is also art that carries a value independent of its subjective attraction as opposed to say, oil paintings or statues. I enjoy just photographing the stuff, too.
- Passing it on. When it's my time to go, I'll be able to transfer my wealth to heirs without anyone knowing. This means AU, because Ag in any significant amount is too massive to transport surreptitiously.

Luckily the diamond I have is inherited so I didn’t pay anything except to mount it on a new band, and it’s indeed over 1 carat (1.15) with a cut/color that is fantastic and colorless, as well as it’s clarity is VVS1 I believe so it’s worth about 15k. It’s vintage as hell too so it’s nice that it’s not some fake ass diamond that was made in a lab. But I totally agree it’s all a Jew scam. But what’s crazy is that nowadays sapphires and such actually go for similar prices if you’re buying under a carat pretty fucking gnarly.

I have some nice rings that I inherited.

If you take the time to read some of the old boomer investing books, you will be able to appreciate the bizarre, and temporary situation we are in with rock bottom interest rates. The get rich scheme of crypto is a sailed ship, and the leverage in the economy has propped up all asset prices including stocks, bonds, real estate. If you remove cheap money, credit, mortgages and actually value things based on people's real purchasing power (as opposed to liquidity frothing around) you will find that our economy is extremely distorted and due for a catastrophic deflationary depression. And not only that, but the value of the dollar has been crippled beyond repair. The Fed's balance sheet is ruined, the zombie banks are all hostage to their over leveraged investments, and toxic worthless paper assets are sitting on balance sheets to the tune of dozens of TRILLIONS of dollars. The only hope left to survive this is to inflate the currency. And basic-bitch game theory 101 would suggest that the escape route must be hidden. If paper assets are cashed out and physical commodities are purchased then the whole economy collapses as no one wants to be holding worthless paper that will lose half its value in 6 months. Money commodities will ALWAYS be the last price to move because the banks can't play their games if it does. There are plenty of people who watch the paper metal markets and it is blatantly manipulated by major banking institutions. The play here, is to trust what you know. Trust history. Gold was revalued in the 1920 and dollars lost 69% of their purchasing power as a means to FORCE inflation because rejoining the gold standard after WW1 cause catastrophic deflation because it was undervalued. Read the pic attached 10 times until you understand it.

Diamonds are way more common than you are led to believe. The diamond market is kept artificially inflated. I don't remember where I've read this, but something like 75% of the mined diamonds are either burnt or smashed and used as an abrasive, while the rest of them actually get polished. And it's not even because those diamonds would be low quality, I'm talking strictly about jewelry quality diamonds. They're destroyed specifically to boost the price of the remaining ones.
While it's not advisable, if you want to go for gemstones, go for emeralds. They're actually rare and their price is far less inflated. Rubies/sapphires are kinda meh. Absolutely stunning, but they're more common, and the market is filled to the brim with very well done synthetics. They're more like the gateway drug to the gemstone world rather than gemstones that you'd want to own strictly for their rarity.

Because you're probably buying it online, or from reputable stores. So you're not only paying for the silver, you're also paying some sort of "premium" or whatever you want to call it (basically paying for the reputability of the store on top of the store's profit).
If you want to buy junk silver, train your eye and go to shadier, corner of the block kind of pawn shops. They got all sorts of shit that you can buy for cheap (it's stuff that came from who knows where, they'll want to get rid of it as fast as possible), and you can negotiate the price face to face.
2 Words of caution though.
-It's really easy to get scammed if you don't know what you're doing (if they didn't also sell fake shit, they wouldn't be selling it cheap. They're not trying to be reputable, they're trying to cycle stuff as fast as possible, and make as much money as possible from it). Make sure you're really good at identifying silver.
-When I say junk silver, I don't mean slightly tarnished coins. I mean bits of bracelets, bent cutlery, damaged jewelry, etc. Actual junk that happens to be made of silver. Ideally, that's what you would want to go for, since you're strictly paying for the raw material and not for its aspect. But if you want good looking silver, this method is not for you.

I don't want to be rich. Truly.

I buy metals because I want an easily portable store of value that is real enough to survive hyperinflation and the death of the dollar. Something I can hide on my person in case I had to leave everything at a moment's notice. It's the same reason I have invested in tools and guns that can fire home made hard-cast bullets from black powder charges or factory modern bullets. The future is gonna be hard. And if it isn't I'll be happy to be wrong.

I picked them because they look pretty, AU grade, and I wanted something that can be fondled -- .900 it is. For investing purposes go with whatever is closest to spot, or take a chance on something you predict will appreciate. That's typically more often seen in runs of silver rounds though: werewolf, aliens, boobas, beasts, etc. Coins with a face value are better for passing through checkpoints, as is jewelry but that has a huge markup.

Gold has been dry the last several weekends, even after hitting 40+ yard sales a day during the busy season. There's -some- sterling necklaces and smalls out there, but I'm not finding any small 10k-14k like I'm used to. Silver smalls are all well and good, but gold is where I make any sort of profit over gas money to fuel the picking hobby. Today's resellable jewelry lot of 10.75g sterling haul for $3.50 was offset by picking up a brand new eschenbach visolux($100-$150) for $2 and some video games that I flipped for a 20% profit to the local game store. I also snagged a stamping set for my homepour pewter ingots for $5. Was a fun day out meeting people too fellas. Local connections will be invaluable in any given shtf scenerio. Probably more valuable than silver and gold itself. Stay safe out there!

update on indie and twitter here in a few. but to cover all the bases here, the mint is currently working on the dies to see if they need to completely remake them or if they can work with what's already there they will use the existing dies. the changes include the detailing on the clover, the definition on the hammer, the text on the shirt, the lines on the shirt collar, definition on the shirt.

there are a few other ones like the eyes and the moving of 2022 slightly up that the mint is going to get back with us for but we are working with them on ways to make the eyes better. no guarantee on that yet. obviously this means significant delays but id rather it take longer than deliver something that we could have done better. other than that how are anons enjoying their Saturday.

That is a round, the Perth Mint in Australia makes them.
Coins are legal tender and have a face value in dollars or whatever the country of origin uses, euro, peso, etc.
Coins have an advantage of being exempt from taxes in a lot of areas. Bars have the advantage of lower premiums generally.
Rounds are a balance between the two and are good if you don't want to drop a lot of cash on them all at once, plus they can have some cool meme art.

As with anything, the proper answer is: It depends.

Why do you stack?
How much time do you want to put into stacking?
How cheap can you stack what materials?
Do you worry about confiscation?
Do you care about resell-ability?
Do you care about trade-ability?
What country are you in?
Do you need to travel with your PMs?
Are you buying for immediate, short term, or long term plays?

All questions to ask yourself when buying. If you just want to be super basic, only buy sovereign gold coins minted by your own country from your local LCS.

I normally recommend against generic mint-marked-only bars.
I have to admit that price is very good, especially for a Germania Mint, which typically garners a higher premium for I don't know why.

Most of the criticism was reasonable, some of it wasn't obvious to me at first glance, but what has been seen cannot be unseen.

Meanwhile i'm trying to print coin display stands with transparent PETG, but so far they turn out milky. Have to play around with the settings a bit more but i don't think it's possible to get them perfectly clear with a FDM printer.

>Are they all misprinted like that? Why the fuck is the adverse printed opposite from the reverse?
American coins have always been minted like that. The designs flip vertically instead of Horizontally because traditionally Horizontal designs were only used on medals.
A lot of other countries used to use vertical orientation too (France, Switzerland, Canada, the Netherlands, etc.) but they all switched to Horizontal orientation over the 20th century, leaving just the US, South Korea and a couple small insignificant places in the Third World as the only ones using Vertical orientation. I don't know why everywhere switched to Medal Orientation, but the US didn't switch out of "tradition".

All the best designs for German coins were made before 1920. You had dozens of minting authorities, High Purity coins, Good artists and a country which was confident in itself all coming together for a perfect storm of Reall well designed Numismatic coins.
Here's my Drei and Funf mark collection, strangely Bavaria and Wurttemberg seem to be the easiest for me to get my hands on. Of course the Defeat of Napoleon and Wurttemburg Wedding Anniversary 3 Marks I had to specifically seek out and pay a pretty hefty premium for, but they were certainly worth it.

Main Points
- LTCM (biggest hedge fund collapse ever at the time) was short 400 tons of gold that it borrowed from the Italian gov't. US bailed out the position, and made sure no one knew.
- Bear Sterns was categorically long gold, which is part of the reason the US gov't wanted to see it fail

However, in the future economy I expect all natrural resources to cost much more. The dollar-debt system had the global economy burning red hot and burning through all easily accessible deposits of materials to acquire dollars. >big colorful diamonds are worth it
Seriously? I had read a long time ago about some Russian meteor crater which holds tons of diamonds, arguing diamonds aren't rare. However now that I've gone searching for it, I found an article debunking that crater as non-economical low industrial grade diamonds.
However, there's also synthetic lab grown diamonds which I heard can be grown bigger and purer than natural diamonds. Supposedly diamond ring distributers are trying to push the marketing of "natural diamond has flaws which make them more valuable and unique". Sounds like a load of BS to me. Has anyone tried to resell diamond rings to see how much they can actually get back? I'm thinking it'd be a huge loss, as it can't be melted down like PM to be fungible. Cynical me thinks it's a scam to leech money from marriages like anything to do with weddings.
If we could synthetically make gold in the lab which would be more bigger (more economical) and purer than naturally occurring gold...wouldn't that make gold less valuable than more valuable?

lab grown gems are getting to the point where their nearly impossible to ID against naturally formed ones.
A lot of the value that goes along with large colored natural stones is simply rarity. A large pink diamond (20 carats plus) would be worth a lot more than if it was simply a white stone.

As for lab grown gold, it wouldnt be any different than any other gold, other than the fact that it took a fuck load more energy to generate than conventional mining would use to mine the same amount. Gold can be made in a lab using reactors and particle accelerators but its not any different than gold from the ground, other than its usually extremely radioactive.

I ve heard of that crater of diamonds a few times, there are several similar places around the world i ll go find one in Alberta thats been looked over a few times in the last century.

Finished diamonds are extremely difficult to cut and take expertise to produce. You can’t even use a normal faceting machine. You have to use pure iron lap wheels which slowly remove molecular layer by molecular layer at high RPMs and special made hand pieces with precision indexing wheels. You have to be able to see the grain of the diamond. You need a little vacuum that sucks up the debris from the cutting so you don’t inhale it… suffice it to say that whether it be a natural diamond or lab made it will be expensive and diamonds do hold their value due to their difficult-to-manufacture nature.

Well, other than they are so unusually flawless and lack of impurities from what I understand. I think they're also marked by the manufacturer with a laser or something.
>A lot of the value that goes along with large colored natural stones is simply rarity.
Sounds like numismatic value rather than intrinsic value of the material then.
>As for lab grown gold, it wouldnt be any different than any other gold, other than the fact that it took a fuck load more energy to generate than conventional mining would use to mine the same amount.
I meant if it was analogous to the economics of natural and synthetic diamonds to show my reasoning of why I think natural diamond value should go down with synthetic grown diamonds being possible. Of course synthetic gold is not economically viable.

some labs are now adding little inclusions in their stones because exactly right, they were too perfect. If you put one of these lab grown stones up against a naturally formed one you might not be able to tell a difference other than when their marked as such.
Also yes, when talking about precious stones its value is really how ever much a buyer will be willing to pay. Large diamonds for example often get bought by specific gem workshops to make one off special pieces. The material isnt whats valueble, its whats made from it.

As for lab made gold being radioactive, its my understanding that the process to make it does generate isotopic gold, and its usually in very minuscule amounts. I dont believe though there are any actual uses for this other than in experimentation.

>diamonds do hold their value due to their difficult-to-manufacture nature.
So married women can sell their wedding rings and get back the initial investment cost back while marriage rates are going down (thereby lowering the demand, and increasing the supply), not to mention in lieu of having to work for mercury dimes soon? What is the market for diamond rings other than marriage? Do people buy diamonds rings as investment?

I mean I'm kind of asking jokingly, but seriously is there something I'm missing? I know there's diamond heist movies that act like diamonds are really valuable, but then there's bank heists movies where the robbers steal paper. Is that just social programming to make the viewers think diamonds are super valuable?

The only value I've seen is diamond rings is women showing them off to each other to brag. I once worked with a woman who used to work on the cruise lines with her then fiancée. They bought a huge diamond to mount in the Caribbean for super cheap. IIRC it was an $8k value diamond for really cheap. When she had the ring in the office, holy crap was it a magnet to all the women in the office to gather around and be envious, it was like they had to cover their eyes because it was so big and shiny. It was nuts.

But anyways, yeah we show off our pretty gold coins here, but gold has monetary value as well as some industrial uses. What do diamonds have other than for marriage & showing off for women?

Diamonds were extremely rare in Europe before the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries, the primary sources were in the far east, and stones were often difficult to work with due to the limited tech of the era. When diamonds were discovered in South Africa in 1867, they became far less rare.

The reason diamonds are associated with wealth now is due to Debeers in 1947, before that diamonds were no where near as popular, and not associated with marriage.

I don't think investing in diamonds is a good idea in a deleveraging event. Yes, they are good to have wealth outside of the banking system, but I imagine that just like any premium consumer/luxury good, people's ability to pay will be decreasing. Million dollar homes will take a far larger hit than a sensible single family home. And in that same fashion, we will all be materially poorer and there will not be boundless amounts of wealth to be splurging on luxury.
Don't forget, America runs a $700BN yearly trade deficit. Those goods are leveraged into countless businesses, jobs, real estate, taxes, etc. We are going to be seeing a major contraction when this happens, and luxury goods like diamonds will be like trying to sell a $1M house to a broke millennial.

We will be rethinking everything from the impulse buys, the fast food, coffee, the value of name brands, the need to signal to others that we "made it" by buying expensive vehicles. That is true, gold is used in electronics on pins and connectors, and diamonds are used in saw blades and other tools. But is the gold plating on pin connectors pure gold, and not an alloy? The diamonds in saw blades from what I understand are low grade industrial diamonds, so I'm unsure if it would be the same as pure gold.
>I would compare the cheapness of lab grown diamonds to the cheapness of gold plated jewellery.
I would still contend that lab grown synthetic diamonds are exactly the same as top grade diamonds if not better, whereas gold plating is not the same as top grade natural/synthetic diamonds, it's more analogous to low grade industrial diamonds but you can't refine those to be purer/higher grade. I guess gold plating would be more analogous to diamond encrusting? Aren't diamond encrusting using small inexpensive low grade diamonds?

LOL, when I think of diamond encrusted, I think of that original iphone that was gold plated, diamond encrusted. I wonder if that thing still has a high numismatic value given it's encrusted, plated, and has obsolete tech.

Oh I forgot to mention, but doesn't diamonds being able to be made synthetically in a lab undercut the labor cost of production point? Or rather that point of gold being valuable because of the energy cost needed to obtain.

If you can synthetically make the thing that is high labor costs for cheap(er) (aka mass produce), the high labor cost of doing it the inefficient way doesn't really matter anymore, right? Like somebody could pay more for expensive handcrafted leather shoes, but does that really matter if everybody just buys more efficiently mass produced leather shoes? Like "handcrafted" which is more labor intensive seems to be a marketing gimmick of getting more money for something made inefficiently, if end quality is roughly the same.

Nice fren, nice. As much as it is a platitude, it honestly isn't about how much you earn, but how much you spend, my 26 year old brother has $100k in the bank despite not earning more than $45k/year in his life (working class poor family, no money inherited)

Sounds like you already have the spending part sorted and just needed to sort the income part out, which you now have (I'm guessing it wasn't low before, just average). We are all gonna make it. Don't let some pissy cunt be all sour grapes since you are experiencing some success, had a few people get sour instead of congratulate me when I told them I'm earning a decent, honest income
