You have to have a bachelors degree in my field to get the job that I have, but my employer said less month they had zero applicants. When I was studying my masters in aus I had savings to get me through but wanted the dole to help out.

I was required to apply for like 14 jobs a fortnight (something like that). I didn’t want a job so I spent 5 minutes sending my resume to receptionist positions every fortnight.

As a male I didn’t get a single response over one year.

Cold applying to jobs doesn't work. Job postings you see online are not for hiring. They are for justifying immigration visas, firing someone, promoting someone, etc. Companies post job postings and say "we tried but no one was qualified," so it ok to promote my niece or fire this guy I hate or hire this immigrant for 1/2 the salary.

If you actually want a job you should network with someone who works there or get in touch with a recruiter at the company, or work with a head hunter if you're lazy. I have had my ups and downs and I struck the jackpot right before COVID hit and have been working a job I was underqualified for and it was all work from home. I job hopped at the perfect time. Honestly people typically do it the other way. I've worked with government most of my career. People that are junior (younger people) work with the government a few years then jump ship to industry. Senior government people (SES+) usually cap out around 200K a year with the exception of certain areas in medicine, research, and finance (which maybe go up to 300K). Someone in that same level of seniority in industry will likely make double or more. Also at that seniority level you typically see people coming BACK IN from industry because at that point they don't need the money but want the capture over policy, regulation, etc.

The code base was already fucked when I got there because it was as old as me. When I was working there my job was basically to be an archeologist and find out how something was programmed 20 years ago and how to get it to work in modern .net.

No one even knew where the servers this shit was running on, let alone who was responsible for maintaining these things (literally companies that don't even exist anymore in some cases). I had to write a custom encryption/decryption pipeline based off of ancient code full of comments like "//needs fix" and "//ask bob about date because it doesn't work" that was based around just scrambling timestamps around because there was no standard https at the time it was set up.

For example once I found out that the way this thing was designed 15 years ago it would stop working on every day the day and month were the same day (january 1st, february 2nd, etc) , at a specific time.

I also never even told my boss about it because my team got let go so screw that. This company manages 20 billion dollars in retirement assets btw and the shit I was untangling was handling actual people's accounts and there were dozens of repos that could be dependent on it (it's not like you even know because the whole thing was a tower of babel). There is a huge amount of code debt out there that is yet to be repaid.

I also went through the trouble of shooting a few hundred personalized resumes and the works. I got 4 job offers. 3 were in the midwest, I denied because I'd rather wage here. One was in some crazy firm in Hawaii that wasnt even hiring. And the way I got that job was creepily find the owners email and messaging him if he could higher me with this message about me being a hardworker and a fresh graduate. I flew out to Hawaii and got the job. Covid hit the next month so I cancelled to take over some famiky business but the lesson is, message the boss. Fuck HR, work around their dumbass. Once you talk to a real person there you instantly get further than some screening bot.

To add onto that when you mention logs, at my last job the logging and error monitoring was all over the place or mostly nonexistent so I set up error monitoring software that could track errors at multiple levels with tagging and do things like trace the error from the backend to the frontend while seeing the state on the frontend side (there were always emails about what to do about error monitoring/tracking for like 6 months when I first got there and no one was doing anything about it so I asked if I could fix it and my boss said sure).

The thing I found was called Sentry and for the entire business it would have cost like 40 dollars per month or something (total not per seat and it fulfilled all of our compliances) and even after I integrated it (it plugged in perfectly) and had it set up in docker and everything the guy above my boss said that he couldn't approve the 40 dollars a month TOTAL because we were already paying thousands and thousands a month for SolarWinds (I shit you not).
I got sent some links to solarwinds's docs that you have to pay to even look at (huge red flag). I went through so many pages of shit across multiple meetings and we couldn't figure out what service could even help us let along how to the fuck to just plug it into asp.net. It was lacking all standards of modern consumer documentation (basically an sdk dump).

Everyone was more senior than me and pulled the "this isn't working" thing every day because things would break constantly. I set up things to show what builds were passing tests or which ones weren't at certain dates (because there were 40+ repos I shit you not). Otherwise they had no way of knowing what commit actually broke where (they didn't write any tests). I tried to explain it to my boss and he didn't get it. I hope they just collapse under their own weight because I spent a lot of time trying to clean up their shit and was only met with this learned helplessness response from everyone.

In 30-40 job apps to positions at 8 different companies I got contacted by 6 of the 8, from that I got 5 interviews. I went through multiple phone and zoom rounds and was invited to final round on-site with 4 companies. I accepted a job offer from the first on-site which was my first choice, and I declined the other 3 on-site interviews. Two of them still wanted me to do the interview even after I told them I accepted another offer.

I did not expect such a high response rate and to have such success in the interviews. If you have in demand skills, you will be contacted.

If your only getting a 1% response rate, then you either aren’t a match for the job, or you’re resume skills and self promotion skills are horrible.

Maybe try to make a business doing something on fiverr/upwork and then also make a website to accompany it. Write in your resume the time you weren't working you were actually doing this business you created (2020-2023 business owner), list the revenue you made from fiverr on your resume to show you actually can make money, in interviews make it seem like you were actually getting website conversions from the site you made to accompany your business (that was mostly revenue from fiverr work but they don't have to know just know your funnel and say your ran google ads). My grandpa lost hearing in his right ear from coronavirus. Since the spike proteins are now known to travel in the blood at the same amounts as actual coronavirus for up to a month after getting the vaccine (pfizer said it would be muscular only but that was shown to not be the case), it could easily have been the spike proteins from the vaccine that did that. In both cases the script was basically "I'm looking for a job can I come work with you?". Did this in a bank too but didn't follow up as I got the first job I mentioned.
