Chainlink may be a good tech, but it's a horrible investment and will always disappoint. Why? Because the strength of the chainlink network is not tied to the price of the chainlink token. Rule #1 of investing: Never, ever, buy an investment where the developers have goals that don't align with the investor's goals.

The chainlink token is literally compensation to node runners for querying public APIs and formatting data to be compatible with blockchain standards.

You know how much it computing costs are involved in querying data via a REST API, formatting the data and doing a double blind handshake? Not much. My phone could probably run thousands of requests per minute - all it takes is to meet their shitty hardware standards.

Anyone who has read the chainlink white paper understands that there is no fucking way this shit will be valuable even if the entire world's financial system starts running on it tomorrow.

The computational cost to 'mine' the chainlink token is just too fucking low for it to be of any value.

>why cant APIs put data on a blockchain tho?
They can. It's blockchains that can't query data from APIs because blockchains are fundamentally different from, and incompatible with, how APIs require the querying of data.

You need a middleman piece of code which interacts with both the blockchain and the API - generally called an 'Oracle' - to take queries generated as a result of smart contacts and translate them into API queries and then translate back the Response such that it can be recorded on whatever blockchain requested it.

Chainlink is a way to create that oracle in a decentralised manner on a blockchain of its own with configurable options and safety features built in. That's literally all it is.

It has a max supply of 1B - let's just consider half of it so 0.5B (due to circulation / staking etc.) Now consider it replaces all swift and banking transactions tomorrow using an ETH blockchain. The entire revenue generated through digital contracts in the world banking system is around 500B.

This gives the link token a theoretical max revenue per token of $1000. That's literally it's theoretical max value imo. $1000 per token, if it replaces the entire global bank transfer systems industry in place right now.
