Yes, for the same reason he stated in the movie, people are getting tired of all of this shit, and they are realizing that they just can't justify clown world anymore, not only in the states, all over the world, including korea, japan and china (which is saying something). So slowly they are having to face reality, just look at the youth now days, a lot of cynicism in very young people, and they approach problems that most boomers would not even think about it until they were much older, or would never think about it at all. Ask any young person if they want to work 40, 50 years and built a 'carrier' to retire and most will say that is insane in one form or another... VR will be one of the saving graces of this generation, we will be freed from the bonds of our societal structure and to some extent reality itself, just like the internet did, but a much, much larger scale.

What controllers did you use? I have an index and like the controllers for the most part. But moving and turning/aiming all at the same time isn't really possible compared to a keyboard + mouse unless you're walking around (and then you run into all kinds of locomotion issues because while it's cool to have body mapping in VR it limits you to your physical space).

I think we need some sort of third input such as pressure pads in shoes or something that can register your footsteps without actually moving.

No. VR has a few problems
1: Nobody wants to use headsets with any sort of weight on them for a prolonged period of time. After a couple of hours it becomes uncomfortable for most people to use it.
2: too many people suffer from motion sickness while using VR.
3: Part of the sales pitch of VR is more freedom of movement while using your body. But most people are not physically in shape enough to be able to play well in any sort of difficult game for an extended period of time. And this isn't just me saying that gamers are fat (which they are) but rather that difficult games will require a lot of consistent movement that even normies would struggle with if they had the skill to play them.
There's other smaller issues but those are the 3 big ones.

Internet was always useful. I can't think of any business uses for VR that aren't niche. You could use it for training (doesn't require every trainee to own their own headset, they can just go to a training center) or you could use it for things like 3D design or telerobotics control, which both would be owned by whatever company you work at. Kek. They said the same about the internet, you're probably young, search some documentaries about the early internet and personal computers, no need to go as far as the 80's, just early to mid 90's will be enough. I don't mean to troll you, but you really have no idea how gigantic this is, we aren't even in the 95's of VR... Just ask yourself, realistically what use does myspace or facebook has to the regular guy or girl? None, if anything it's a hindrance, haven't you learned anything with modern day society? Things are not valued based on their realness or usefulness. If it were, people that do hard labor would be millionaires and billionaires, and most of them if anything are middle class... it's not only the industrial application that will buy this... maybe in the beginning, but this is just the next iphone, it's inevitable.

No. Putting something on your head and giving up all vision of real life is too claustrophobic.

It only seems that way because people have used and abused these things over time. Social media is undeniably useful to reach people over the internet and organize events, sell items in your local area, and discuss news with people in all your social circles. Case in point, I saw my dying grandfather and he saw me over video call through social media.
>it's like the next internet
The same thing has been said of every technology. Every technology successful or unsuccessful has had its detractors and supporters, comparing to a successful one alone doesn't make an argument for mass adoption.

I can tell you're in your 20s because you haven't gotten to that point where you realize how empty entertainment is and that it gets old after a while.
There aren't as many young (and white) people as there were in the 90s, and so there's less of a match between developers (mostly white/western) and consumer.
But ultimately - everything has been done.
There's only so many times you can make another rehash of Star Wars or Tom Clancy.
Also, the world comes to an end when cattle realize they are being genocided by child torturers.

Agree to disagree, if you can't see it, I don't have the time to explain it to you, sorry.

>where you realize how empty entertainment is and that it gets old after a while.
It's called life, everything gets old and over used, wasn't mark twain that said everything is a mix of old things arranged in a different way? What's the alternative? Most people don't think that way, and most importantly, they don't care...
And if they do care, they are too fucking busy doing whatever, so, although you are partially right, I really don't see it, it won't change anything, just take a look at all big religions, they tried, but ultimately they failed, because that too gets old, only change stays, only progress, when this comes (VR), will it last forever? No, but what does? And btw, everything is entertainment, everything, even your pain. It's all a game.

I have a leaky tap that can do this for free. I can even take a shower, bet your simulation can handle that.
