Node operators place bids. If they are chosen, they will be paid based on their bid. Sergey does not hold you at gun point to place a bid of "1/312", you calculate your bid yourself. If your cost for providing a certain set of data is $10, then you'll bid $10 + profit margin. Not 1/312 of $10, or whatever the point is you're trying to make.
