So far /biz/ sucks. It's filled with NEETs begging for Bitcoins, idiots asking whether or not they should nab a job at McDs, and neckbeard Jordan Belfort wannabes pimping out pump-and-dumps. Prove me wrong.

ITT: if you're the Real Deal, post timestamp with Rolex or Mercedes S-Class or Hamptons oceanfront vista and then maybe stick around to answer questions or something

the board's mostly young people (aged 18-25) bantering about which major makes the most money, people a little older who think they know shit because they lived frugally on a ~80-100k salary for their working lives to hit the million mark, kids who think that bedroom daytrading can make more than enough to support them (including btcfags), and neets who come hear to make enough to support their neet lifestyle without breaking their microscopic comfort zone, similar to how fatties go to /fit/ but won't read the sticky.

The most you'll see here are older people who haven't lived + have saved their whole lives, or kids who inherited money from their parents.

People who "make it" don't come here.

I don't know what else you expected considering most of 4chan is age 18-25 and most of them in college. While it's not unreasonable that there are some old people who have made their money here, or some young people who were both unbelievably smart and played their cards right to make an early fortune, its still mostly people who have yet to even enter the working world.

Would you expect reasonable businesspeople/professionals to browse 4chan considering it's reputation on the internet and /biz/'s relative newness?

It is unfortunate that some people judge others by their choice in foods, beverages, suits, watches, motor vehicles, and such. To them, superior people have excellent taste in consumer goods. But it is easier to purchase products that denote superiority than to actually be superior in economic achievement. Allocating time and money in the pursuit of looking superior often has a predictable outcome: inferior economic achievement.

>People incur debts when the mortgage a rental property and have their tenants pay their mortgages for them.

Depends on price:rent ratio. Price is determined by access to credit. Rent is determined by median income. In places with high median incomes and low access to credit the rent may cover the mortgage an then some. In places with low median incomes and high access to credit the cost of a mortgage will be far above rent.

Example: In Vancouver the price of the cheapest detached house is upwards of $650,000, very much above the national average, while the median income is slightly below national average. The advantage goes to renting since the cost of ownership would be over double what the cost to rent is. Interest, taxes and maintenance on a property would end up being far above rent, and those cost are not recoverable at time of sale. So renting makes sense and being a landlord does not.

Just think about it for a little bit. The markets close at 4. Who would be around at 10 o'clock, and would they really be in the mood for an intern?

You also need to get your priorities straight. The firm is doing you a favor by hiring you, a hapless intern with no experience. When they ask you shit, you say what color, where and what time. When you're hired you don't dictate conditions. They're got other people to hire who can make time for them.

You have to work around their schedule, not theirs around yours.

Find a career that you're willing to support with 100% of your effort for the next 5 years. You don't have to love the job, or even find it particularly rewarding or fulfilling (that's a bonus if its true) ... but it should have upside potential (financially) and you must be willing to make it your top priority.

For 98% of those who achieve wealth, stability, and success in their lies, it starts with a solid career. For someone in their 20's, the best advice I can give is to develop a stable source of income, live frugally, and invest your excess earnings in conservative long-term funds. That'll form the base of your financial pyramid, upon which you can build going forward based on your talents.

Your statement really doesn't make any sense whatsoever. How does the state of the legal market have any correlation to my IQ? Even if your statement about law being a monopoly were true (which it is not), that wouldn't explain the demonstrable level of my intelligence (as exemplified by my academic accomplishments). good thing about those careers I mentioned is that you can start off working for someone else at first(since their business will likely have things like liability insurance, a work truck, etc- that you'll need to start off). If you're good and smart, you can eventually open up your own welding company/auto shop/general contractor/ etc, but it all depends on if you're good and if you're willing to spend the effort on it.

I'll go to the interview, try my best to build rapport with the employer, present myself as super professional, but it seems to keep boiling down to how my education isn't transferable to the job at hand.

I majored in business economics. I'm from a rural community. A perfect job for me would be a 'business analyst' position. I've been applying for local finance/accounting positions because I DO have a skillset pertinent to those fields, but, I keep getting "unfortunately, we..." e-mails.

I went through the interview process with a financial institution a few months ago. They gave me the run around for 2 weeks straight. I was interviewed by 3 separate managers, stayed in contact over the phone with an HR guy, and even shadowed a manager for the day. I'm hoping I'll be fine.

They probably just weren't diligent enough in focusing on internships and networking in school and not the mention the whole super saturated STEM major bullshit.

>I'm just unemployable.
Bullshit. If you've got decent grades and a Kelley degree, then you can find a career position. So what if your effort haven't yielded results yet? You've only been looking for nine months, which while unfortunate, is hardly enough time to throw in the towel and throw away your life in the military or your parent's basement. Fifty applications didn't get results? So what? ... just send 100 more. Send 500 more. Top priority and 100% effort means top priority and 100% effort.

Also, you CAN afford to move somewhere. For a good job, you can and should move. Beg, borrow or steal if necessary ... but find a way. Getting that good first job is more important than anything else.

Finally, don't spout nonsense about Chicago being your only option. You're in range to interview for jobs in Indianapolis, Cincinnati, St. Louis, Dayton, Columbus, Louisville, Detroit, Milwaukee, Cleveland. and Nashville ... just to name the larger cities.

I'm sorry , but if you have good grades and a degree from Kelley then there's really no excuses left. 95% of the career-seeking population would kill to have your resume.

By definition- insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

The guy needs to review his application process and resume and see why it's not working.

Not all solutions can be found by throwing more and more time/money/effort at a problem

Oh man, you are going to be in a whole world of shit when you figure out that a Big Red degree is worth as much as one from Syracuse.

Any other ivy does the job, but cornell is just the worst.

Ordinarily your point has validity, but you have to look at the context. This guy claims to have top tier grades and a degree from one of the better respected business schools in the Midwest. Compared to most job seekers, he's not starting at square 1 ... he's more like at square 4 right off the bat.

Obviously, any job seeker's resume and interview skills should always be self-evaluated and re-evaluated. But when you've got a resume that puts you ahead of 95% of the job seeking market, then its really just a numbers game.

Sorry to be that autistic guy. But that isn't the definition of insanity...at all.

I gotta agree with ihaz on this one. If this guy truly graduated from Kelley with good grades, even if he didn't take advantage of internships during undergrad, he shouldn't just give up on his goals.

I suspect that he is applying for jobs, which he really isn't cut out for, because of lack of experience. And doesn't want to take an entry level job(low pay), and work his way up. That is just a guess, not saying it's true.

Many people I know graduated with a BA and felt they were to good for entry level work, even though there was upward mobility. They wanted to start in the middle not the bottom.

exactly, that's why I said in my last post

>The guy needs to review his application process and resume and see why it's not working.

if he sent out 100 resumes/applications and all have the same results, he's needs to take a different angle or try a different strategy.
