If I have like 50$ in bitcoin on an exchange should I remove it before the fork? Could I lose my coins or something?

Move all your bitcoin onto bittrex, they have the new segwit2x wallet installed. This will allow you to double up and obtain free money. Only thing is you need to dump straight away because these forks always get dumped immediately, so be ready for that.
