I've got $80 and I need a strategy for growing my initial buy in.

I'm a complete newb and I just want to stick with Coinbase to keep things simple while I dip my toes into the crypto currency pool.

You won't learn much from Coinbase. Treat the $80 like an education fund. Nobody knows what will happen for sure, but if I only had $80 I'd pick Ethereum and I'd buy Req with it.

You realize coinbase charges a $2 base fee and then like 4% on top of that? With an $80 investment you would have to quadruple your investment to make a couple of bucks. Go invest in a nice outfit for an interview for a better job instead.

use GDAX or Gemini instead. GDAX is coinbase without fees and it uses your coinbase login.

Bittrex or poloniex for a legit shitcoin exchange and gdax for the big 3. Gdax is the coinbase exchange. if you wire the money to coinbase and transfer it to gdax it'll be cheaper but probably not worth the wait for just $80.
