The price is determined how much people are willing to "invest" in the coins. How much they are willing to purchase them for. They do have inherent value on their own.

And now the good news: Doge is already moving and trading hands much more rapidly than both other cryptos and more traditional measures of wealth. If more and more people own and are aware of Doge, then the value of Doge is likely going to increase a great deal from where we are at today.

Look at the charts I just made. The number of dogecoin transactions and unique adresses using dogecoin are number 2 as of now since december, when they were bigger than bitcoin's. The number of tweets is on number 2 behind bitcoin.
