Hi /biz/

I have approximately $400 going spare. I would like to somehow increase this amount of money by investing it somehow.

Are there any good (acceptable risk) options for a person who has never invested money in anything before?

Thank you

Of course man, first off you want to trade regular stocks. Mutual funds/index funds are a scam.

Open an account on trade and start buying individual stocks from mid to high performing companies. Even if they're a bit expensive they're worth it. Remember, you're trying to buy stocks to keep your money, not lose it.

Buy coca cola/walmart stocks or stuff like that. Once there, just keeping putting money into it every chance you get and then diversify with competition. Stick to what you know too.

buy weed from a supplier, sell at street price. Usually 20% profit, so now you have $480. Assuming you sell this amount weekly, that $80 will turn into $4000 within a year.

Use this €4000 to go to college or learn a trade. Afterwards, get a job, and save up. Then, when you have $10000 to invest, you can ask what to invest in.

>I did this and now Warren Buffet and Bill Gates are eternally in my debt I'm that wealthy.

OP i am in same boat as you. Really the cash we have is not enough for anything serious. Buy stocks is my advice for you. Nothing really else you can do. Dont by penny stocks they are cheap for a reason... buy companies that your familiar with.

Dont epect those 400 bucks to turn in to 800 soon that is almost impossible cause it fill be based on pure luck.

However it will slowly increase in price and dividents are nice

Thanks for the replies so far guys.

Yeah, I'm not expecting to get rich. I'm just looking for a useful way to invest the money rather than have it sit in a savings account until I inevitably blow it on some pointless shit.

With that amount of money you can't really do too much that isn't worth the risk. If you had the spare time along with the spare cash you could start a small side business doing things like landscaping automotive care or some other type of service. You would use the $400 to rent the equipment you would need to fulfill the tasks though.

And after you've increased that $400 into something like $5000+ I would recommend taking the time to really understand investing in financial instruments like stocks or options.

You can buy Tax Lein Certificates. You can get them pretty cheap.

Also, what >>352366 said. However, you need to try and get more money. Once you $1,000, you can start doing more.

Just out of interests, why are mutual/index funds a scam?

They are stocks without the adventage of stocks. You don't get better tax treatment for them (at least with 401ks). There a lot of fees (how they make their money) which you have to pay if you make money or not.Oh, and the people managing these funds do worse jobs than monkeys. You could randomly pick stocks and do better than most mutual funds.

Ah, thanks. I'm just learning about funds and stocks. Although, I think tax regulation might differ a bit depending on which country you live in.
