DBAN is a very old and reliable tool for data destruction. Been using it for years with confidence. The FBI/CIA use something similar, but this ones open source. It's very through, but by no means fast.

If you want somewhat fast and through, use an angle grinder on the platters.

If you want super duper fast use thermite. Place some in your PC above the HD with an electrical ignition system you can flip on in case of emergencies. THIS WILL BURN THE PLACE DOWN! Don't advice using this method but thought it's worth sharing.

Get a screwdriver and a hammer. Hammer the screwdriver through the aluminum side into the platter. Will either crack or seriously bend the paltters rendering them umrecoverble. Trust me, worked forensics for about 5 years. Shit is toast. Takes all of 10-20 seconds.

You dont need to destroy a hard drive. You just run a Gutman pass on it and be done with it. That goes for both harddrives and solid state drives.

If you are still worried about the hard drive, take it apart and take sand paper to every disk.

SSDs do not save residual data so when you delete something its gone forever. That is actually delete something by running a low level format that writes 0s to every sector.
