Will coinbase ever add support for monero?

When it does i'll trade all of my BTC into it.

Disclosing your exact balance isn't the best idea but I've made an alright amount, not quite at the level of a proper wage certainly but with a couple more machines I'll have my basic monthly bills covered like car insurance and food after power costs
I already owned a lot of computer hardware though, granted not a lot of high end stuff but after a lot of tuning even unimpressive hardware can do some pretty good numbers

Wait until you realize you've been mining at the wrong address all those years, the taxman is going to be bummed AF :(

>>30425987
he's got an unknown amount (UM for short) like everybody else. go to monerobenchmarks.info to see your processor's hashrate and then go to a mining profitablity calculator to find out the rest.

Yeah, that would REALLY suck, I won't even check though, I KNOW I got the address right, even though my memory is pretty bad and there's an almost 100% chance I'm wrong

Mining Monero isn't very profitable unless you have a few Threadrippers going. It's better to mine ETH on Moneroocean and just get paid in XMR

Coinbase has been very transparent about the fact that they were explicitly told not to list Monero for legal reasons. So it's most likely never happening.

what's your advice for a poorfag who wants to get into mining mostly for fun (although I would like to start turning some profit eventually)

While I plan on mining XMR because it's a project a believe in, would mining something else like Ethereum be more profitable?

There are some discussions by U.S. regulators to require KYC information on every wallet address that withdraws from an exchange. That would obviously be impossible with Monero. I heard Brendan Eich talk about that, explaining why Brave browser requires a KYC wallet if you want to withdraw your BAT.

You probaly need to be in a pool

Or like the one guy here said he mines ETH then trades it in for Monero

>> No.30426898

>>30426804
You can mine ETH and Monero on moneroocean.stream. That's who I use, not trying to shill them but it's a good pool. Use Gminer to mine ETH, and Xmrig to mine Monero.

It's always good to have more options. Binance US doesn't support Monero and you could risk getting banned if you're an American using a VPN. Kraken works, but funding your account with USD is a pain in the ass because you can only do it with wire transfers.

>>30426657
They were *advised* not to. It is perfectly legal for them to list Monero but they probably don't want to deal with the negative press when NYTimes, CNN, and WaPo inevitably write hit pieces about "Crypto Exchanges that Help Fund Money Launderers, Terrorism, and White Supremacy".

I have quite a few machines
>2 Ryzen 3900x machines (14KHs each)
>R815 poweredge with 4 opteron 6276s (10KHs)
>Ryzen 1700 (about 3KHs)
the rest is made up of mining altcoins on moneroocean with GPUs
>1080TI underclocked for efficiency but pulling more MHs than stock
>RX580
>5800XT
This is the biggest moneymaker, but you need to undertune the cards to use less power, if you bump the clock speed and drop the memory clock, it'll actually hash better but use less power

>>30426645
You might have a harder time with intel chips, there's a few things you can do though:
>Disable hyperthread
Intel's hyperthread solution is a lot worse than AMD's for mining, you'll get more than double per core with it off
>Get the fastest memory you can for your CPU
This helps a lot more than you'd think
>Look into the CPU config for your mining tool
Not used xmr-stak, but I know XMRig has some pretty in depth settings, poking with these can improve things a lot, if you look at the folder "docs" on their github, it should have all the info you need for each setting
There was a more detailed guide in the OP but it seems to have vanished

>>30426804
Like >>30426898 said, you can use a pool like moneroocean to use GPUs to mine altcoin and auto-convert it to monero, I do this for the most part and it can sometimes be better than most top of the line consumer grade setups, I would still recommend using your CPU for mining at the same time since the network needs all the mining support it can get and if you're converting to XMR you'll be adding transactions to the network so it's worth giving back
You can also try tuning the shit out of your system, most people I know said my opteron setup wouldn't break 4 K and now it hits 10 K
If you just want to get into mining for fun, look for 2nd hand server units, poweredge servers are best, just check the CPUs and their average hashrate
