30169462 No.30169462 [Reply] [Original]

Welcome to the Monero General, dedicated to the discussion of the world's leading decentralized p2p privacy cryptocurrency!

Monero is secure, low-fee, and borderless, meaning users can send XMR around the globe despite corrupt governments or broken financial systems. Innovative privacy features such as Ring Signatures, Stealth Addresses, and Ring CT (hidden tx amounts) ensure that Monero's blockchain is obfuscated -- the financial history of all Monero users is encrypted from the prying eyes of adversaries on a public blockchain, with transactions being visible only by a Monero user willingly providing a view key for a specific transaction.

Monero has also improved upon the scaling downsides of current popular cryptos. To avoid high fees, dynamic block size ensures that the size of the blocks will increase as the amount of txs increases. Further, the mining network algorithm RandomX establishes that anybody with a CPU can participate in mining, preventing the ASIC miner domination that creates a high barrier of entry. Lastly, the mining network will be preserved by Tail Emission -- instead of the block reward falling to zero like with Bitcoin, the block reward will gradually approach 0.6 XMR in May 2022, where it will forever stay. This constant linear inflation means the inflation rate will asymptotically go to zero while continuing to provide an incentive to miners to maintain the network.

If you still have questions, feel free to ask and a MoneroChad will be with you shortly.

why am I randomly getting this error? I have another machine running on this network, on a different port, with no issues. And I've run xmrig on this machine before just fine on this port.

I've tried changing ports, rebooting, redoing the config file and letting it rerun the algo test. I'm out of ideas. Sometimes it works, sometimes it does this.

Setup a node on a spare RPI I had lying around. Already had most of the blockchain on an external HDD.

Plugged the HDD into the RPI and started it syncing, it has 1.3 days left :( On my laptop it would sync that in 2 hours.

Oh well, at least once it syncs it'll always be up to date. I always forgot to start the daemon again on my laptop until I needed to send/receive.

Yeah this is why it's good the block reward keeps falling. We need a Nicehash that pays out in XMR, it would be huge for the price. It would be better for miners too since you could get faster payouts and also keep more of your income due to lower fees. You're also getting a better currency which can actually be used and protects your privacy. Moneroocean.stream is good but we need something more normie friendly. Nicehash makes it so easy.

The answer is a certain yes only if you're a criminal that wants to hide all his money and buy drugs or something. You should always diversify your investments, though imo. Monero is no worse choice than some ETF and it's certainly better than common stocks (just my opinion)

That's a good sign. That was also my reasoning for not buying bitcoin in 2014.

Monero is a long-term hold. Treat it like a retirement fund and compare it with stock market performance, not opportunity cost from speculative assets like Bitcoin.

It's the internet bubble. Do you want to invest in yahoo (bitcoin) pets.com (Ethereum) or Amazon (Monero)?

Yahoo and pets.com were valued way above amazon during the internet bubble.

Look at the 1 year graph for monero it has only been trending up and I feel like this place has been getting more popular but the only reason people aren't jumping in is because of BTC outperforming Monero in the short-term. This is why I am bullish on Monero in the medium term. Everyone agrees that Monero is great. Most crypto blokes say Monero is their favorite project. And their main reason for not holding is short term financial gain.

This points towards medium term adoption of Monero once the short term situation changes. Long-term almost everyone besides the most hardcore bitcoin maximalist thinks Monero will perform great.

Im viewing it as youre not getting much money out of it initially but youre accumulating XMR essentially passively and continuously so if youre mining 2 monero a year now isnt a big deal but by 2030 the 18 you accumulated passively will be a very big deal while durring that time you can just keep buying more for your stack.

Depends on what your needs are. Assuming Monero hits its oft-cited $40K projection by decade's end, your potential stack would be worth:

10 XMR = $400K

25 XMR = $1 million

50 XMR = $2 million

75 XMR = $3 million

HOUSTON, TX – March 3rd, 2021, since its formation in late 2015, TapJets has offered clients an option to pay by cryptocurrencies. They are presently accepting Bitcoin ($BTC), Ethereum ($ETH), and Litecoin ($LTC). Now TapJets ads Monero ($XMR) as a natural evolution of ensuring total privacy for clients who fly private and don't want their travel to be leaked and published in public media. The decision also removes Ripple ($XMR) from payments accepted by TapJets due to recent de-listings from several exchange

>I actually think it's unfair to say "Monero has adoption therefor it is better".

>How is Monero’s privacy different from other coins?

Monero uses three different privacy technologies: ring signatures, ring confidential transactions (ringCT), and stealth addresses. These hide the sender, amount, and receiver in the transaction, respectively. All transactions on the network are private by mandate; there is no way to accidentally send a transparent transaction. This feature is exclusive to Monero. You do not need to trust anyone else with your privacy.

In case you don't know bitcoin is trying to be a store of value akin to gold (21 trillion market cap in total, not per year but total for all time). Monero is trying to be the transaction method of the global dark economy which is 40 trillion PER YEAR and growing 3-5% annually.

So if both Bitcoin and Monero reaches their goals 1 BTC would be worth ~$1,500,000 permanently and 1 Monero would be worth ~$3,000,000 in year one then ~$6,000,000 in year two etc etc

>I know. I just hate basic criticism like "Monero is already adopted by DNM" as dismissive of other projects. It's the retarded bitcoin maximalist logic.

The darknet's love affair with Monero is based exclusively on fundamentals, there is no "muh brand recognition" or "muh network effect" bullshit on there, the ONLY thing that matters is "does this tech help keep me out of prison?"

Therefore, if a truly superior alternative privacy coin ever becomes available it will inevitably displace Monero just like Monero is currently displacing Bitcoin.

Conversely, if there already exist alternative privacy coins yet the darknet continues to ignore them, then that is saying something about their lacking fundamentals.

TL;DR: the cream rises to the top.

Monero is garbage in financial performance.
That's not necessarily a bad thing.
The thing about Monero is that it's been an utter shitcoin for gains because it's just been quietly grinding fundamentals. The good thing about that is that it remains cheap for accumulation and will be prepared when it finally starts marketing/getting normie attention. There will be no incidents holding it back. No Mt. Gox, no ETH Dao fork, etc. Once all eyes are on XMR, it's just going to sit down at #2 in the marketcap beside BTC and quietly await its inevitable crowning #1.

NEW THREAD: >>30222381

>> No.30222700

The problem I have with Precious Metals is their high inflation rates and them not being future proof.

The amount of circulating gold increases by 2-3% a year, For silver it's between 4-5% a year. Over the next 60 years time the amount of gold in circulation will increase 10x.

That is without taking into account innovations in AI guided prospecting and mining, Astroid mining or high energy transmutation of gold and other precious metals.

Meanwhile cryptocurrencies are designed from the ground up to be scarce. Monero currently has an inflation rate of about 1% which is lower than both gold and bitcoin.

For me it makes absolutely no sense to hold precious metals as it is only bleeding money. Sure it is bleeding far slower than fiat. But it's still bleeding.

Cryptocurrencies have replaced Precious Metals because they retain value better over time and ironically enough Monero is less volatile than the price of gold over the last year.
