I also believe tech will at most stagnate, because big players are rotating everything from tech to oil and friends.
It's a shame, because that means I jumped on the TQQQ wagon on almost the exact top for now.

What? It's all retracting. If you want to throw money at booming stock just be sure you think its p/e value is justified in the long term. If not, that upswing will just turn into more downsnwing. And no, I don't think p/e is a useless metric. For example, for Tesla to have a justified p/e of 1000 at current revenues, it would need to absolutely destroy all other car makers (who are all going into EV now) and basically monopolize the world market. I don't think that will happen, so I don't buy Tesla.

>>30120639

Even Amazon right now is a bet on earnings doubling twice over for a p/e ratio of 70 now to about 20 in the future. It might still be a good buy if you had some logic as to why it could shave off its massive revenue costs.

Real talk, do you guys really think that were heading into a down trend?

>> No.30124631

By the way guys, I want to shill Norilsk Nickel to you all as a long term hold (10 years). It has significant risks (and is a pretty soulless company) but the upside is huge and imo in stocks your first responsibility is to yourself as you don't invest in companies directly and your money is very vulnerable.

Over the next decade, nickel prices are expected to double: https://knoema.com/ydolvrc/nickel-prices-forecast-long-term-2018-to-2030-data-and-charts

Within just the European Union, nickel demand is expected to rise by 4000%: https://www.mining.com/nickel-demand-for-evs-expected-to-shoot-up-in-the-next-20-years/

Why is this? Well, nickel is essential for the production of EVs. Big names like Volkswagen now explicitly claim to want to change all their cars to an electric model to compete with Tesla. If true, a real electric revolution is upon us.

Norilsk Nickel is the only nickel miner that I could find that has both a p/e of 15!!! and year over year revenue and earnings increase. In a decade, that will only accelerate.

What are the risks? Well, it's a Russian company, it has to pay billions in fines for massive pollution, and it's owned by another Aluminum company that sees it as a cash cow for its debt. The 'EV revolution' may also not materialize as forecast. However, I personally believe that the EU needs nickel too much to stop buying NNs cheap nickel. It is also in the interest of the russian state to keep NN on track as nickel is about to become a big, big commodity. Next year earnings will be flat because of the massive environmental fine. But you should hold this thing for 10 years.

Further research: looking at how much new nickel NN can produce. Even the doubled nickel price justifies this company imo but the real gains are in production.

There was also that time he tweeted that he was gonna take Tesla private when the stock hits 420. He almost got removed as CEO for that.
He does obvious pump and dump type shit too. Like how he announced his company's stock split for the same day as AAPL and then his brother and a couple insiders dumped millions in shares at the September top. Or how any time the price hits a support he announces some vaporware.
That BTC purchase was announced the same day news came out about Tesla warranties in China.

I really don't get the big fuss over tech earnings.
You're comparing TSLA a company that will be mass producing robot chauffeurs to F a company that makes cars.
Even if F fixed it's shit you're still buying a whole legacy car company like a tumor attached to the side of an EV startup.
AAPL just raised cash and we all know they can't do acquisitions with it so why are the holding dollars? Because they have r&d plans. Cars or robots or something, I don't care, I just know they have plans.
I feel like a year without tech shows has made us all forget how stupidly fast everything is moving in terms of tech development.

This is absolutely true.
You are a bit too starry eyed about self driving cars. I work near AI, and it's absolutely not happening anytime soon.
We will have great gradual improvements like automated trucks on highways, with platooning to reduce air resistance. Or the fact that TSLA managed to make a car that doesn't kill its LiIon batteries in 3 years is also a small miracle.

$CLF

Consensus EPS for 2021 is $2.62. Using a multiple of 8 yields a PT of approximately $21. This estimate assumes (1) no commodities super-cycle, (2) no massive ($2 trillion) infrastructure package, and (3) no quarterly earnings beats. Therefore, factoring in that one or more of these 3 conditions have a reasonable chance of happening, IMO yields a PT in the range of 25-$30.

I've done some research around Achronix, and I don't really believe in their business model. An FPGA IP core is just not that interesting, and the use-cases they list for it are BS.
They are lucky to have Intel as a customer, and that can change when Intel finally just stops caring about putting FPGA components into server chips.

Now this one actually looks cool. I'll have to see some reviews about Freyr batteries, but at NAV it's a no-brainer.

I may pick up more walmart soon as it seems to be cooling off from recent highs

It's historically one of the more solid consumer defensives that can weather recessions. If shit drags out again this year and the market sells off it typically has lower declines than other equities

then, you'd sell off your walmart (even if it at a loss) and buy growth that gets thrashed if inflation takes off further (and it has imo via real estate and other expenses that each away at consumer income)

otherwise hodling

It's simply true that companies are valued based on the risk-free rate, which is the US 10Y treasury yield. With the yield constantly this low, higher valuations are easily justified.
This gets even more true when you consider just how much liquidity there is in the market.

>>30125768
>>30125988
The treasury rate in 2000 was 6%. In the last 10 years we haven't even seen half of that.

I agree that inflation will probably rise in the near-term and the yield will go up slightly -- though if it moves too much, JPow might just start buying the 10y to keep the yield low.
Inflation will hurt high multiple tech stocks with no earnings, but big tech will be just fine since they are basically oligopolies at this point.

>> No.30138074

Fair point, but the thing is, the stock market immediately crumbles when the yield goes up even a little bit. That's still 'bubbly'. Valuations are justified until they suddenly aren't and then people panic. The only real valuation you have is dividend flow. iI nobody drives up the shares of a fantastic company dividends can theoretically reach 100% of the share price, so it makes sense that there is a risk/reward balance there. The higher a company is valued, the less likely your return will be, the more fragile a stock gets.

Also I highly recommend every single person in this thread buys those <2500 strike SPX puts whenever VIX drops below 20 so you know you are getting nice cheap SPX puts which have potential to harvest tons of premium on red weeks.
