>How is BTC investing and not a digital lottery, making it a form of gambling? You're not buying a product or getting a share of a company. You're not exactly "investing in the future" either because BTC has existed for over a decade.
>Why is it that the general public has been aware of BTC for 12 years but it's still not used anywhere?
>Why is it that you have lost use cases instead of getting more of them? I was a BTC guy in 2018 and remember having ATM's in my town, they're gone now. Why?
>What is BTC's value based on? I claim it's based on how badly people want to get rich. During tough times (covid) the value peaks because people are desperate and are grasping at straws. BTC is a grasping-at-straws type of digital lottery, not digital cash. BTC is thin air and the value is a numerical representation of how badly our society is doing. A good society doesn't need BTC.
>How is BTC better from FIAT? You get rid of banks and get shady, criminal marketplaces to deal with instead. My phone number got sold to several worldwide spammers the second I bought crypto.
>Volatility will never stop, because you don't want it to stop. You're in it for gains, not for toppling FIAT. You live and breathe the volatility and you want it to be drastic.
>Explain how BTC will function in the real world with 50-euro transfer costs and slow transfer times.

Because you don't bring any argument, you just spew things you've read without even doing research. Bitcoin in itself is not the next currency, but crypto is a future asset and blockchain will change the way we use the internet. The main detractors are against it because it's decentralized and hurts the current establish "order". Same with the internet 20 years ago. Sure, it's full of scams and get-rich-quick schemes, but the fundamentals are quite solid and future currencies will establish themselves once many of the real problems (not the bullshit you've spewed) finally get fixed.

>crypto is a future asset and blockchain will change the way we use the internet
I used to believe this years ago, but every year it gets less believable because what's considered the "future" is getting postponed. In 2008 people thought BTC would be widely used in 2020. It's now 2021 and the situation has barely changed from 2008. The only difference is that more people want to get rich now.
I don't think there's any actual need for normal people to use the blockchain on a daily basis.
The irony is that the further into the future we go, the blockchain will get more obsolete. One day it can be hacked with a quantum computer and that's literally the end of BTC. All it takes is one quantum computer in the world and basically BTC is compromised.

>Same with the internet 20 years ago.
I don't think the Internet was strongly opposed by anyone in the 90's. Still, I actually think the Internet was a mistake, though. It has fucked up people's attention spans globally. Instead of studying physics for 8 hours a day, we shitpost and watch Youtube poop for 8 hours.

Sometimes 'value' can be abstract and hard to define.

A more important question to be asked is what value do the underlying networks provide? What do the big players think? Are people just being easily-led? How much risk is in this? etc. It's good to be skeptical, just don't be overly-contrarian unless you have a solid basis for it.

I would say these are all pretty valid points. Not to say that crypto (maybe not BTC) can't be huge in future, but I'd say you're right at least for the short-medium term.

The crypto space is highly speculative and 'get rich quick' esque with all the pump and dumps.

Most people tend to buy crypto because they simply believe it will be more valuable in future and can sell it on at a higher price and cash out in fiat, not necessarily because they actually believe in crypto as a technology.

Then you have some small amount of people who actually do believe in it, and want to accumulate crypto over fiat.

The problem is that this "speculative period" has lasted for 12 years and BTC is indefinitely stuck in the speculative period.
That's the whole point. It will never manifest into reality or actualize itself, away from the speculation.
That's why I'm saying BTC is just a number that represents people's desperation.
It's pretty good for that.

Being skeptical is fine but that's not what's happening. These "concerns" aren't from an independent educated skeptical perspective, they're memes you heard and weren't skeptical enough of.
The volatility and speculative aspects are aspects of reality not Bitcoin specifically. Any fast growing thing you can make money on will be overwhelmed by speculation. This is completely irrelevant to the discussion about what crypto adds to the table. If these speculative aspects are all you're concerned with you're just projecting your own bias, not pointing out some flaw.
>they simply believe it will be more valuable in future

Much of it is just people/institutions pumping and dumping. Or the belief that it and crypto will become more valuable. Which isn't inherently a bad thing, sure.

All the value it stores rests on the tech, if it fails there's no value. Everyone who buys it is buying the tech whether they're aware of it or not. It goes even further, the entire crypto economy rests on the security of BTC, as long as it's secure it benefits conflicting interests to promote less secure alternatives. All the twitter experts hyping altcoin tech and shitting on Bitcoin are benefiting from the technical decisions they're criticizing.
