I used to believe this years ago, but every year it gets less believable because what's considered the "future" is getting postponed. In 2008 people thought BTC would be widely used in 2020. It's now 2021 and the situation has barely changed from 2008. The only difference is that more people want to get rich now.

I have my own reservations about crypto and how cultish/religion-like it can be, but this is nothing more than just reductionism.

I would say these are all pretty valid points. Not to say that crypto (maybe not BTC) can't be huge in future, but I'd say you're right at least for the short-medium term.

The crypto space is highly speculative and 'get rich quick' esque with all the pump and dumps.

Most people tend to buy crypto because they simply believe it will be more valuable in future and can sell it on at a higher price and cash out in fiat, not necessarily because they actually believe in crypto as a technology.

Then you have some small amount of people who actually do believe in it, and want to accumulate crypto over fiat.

The volatility and speculative aspects are aspects of reality not Bitcoin specifically. Any fast growing thing you can make money on will be overwhelmed by speculation. This is completely irrelevant to the discussion about what crypto adds to the table. All the value it stores rests on the tech, if it fails there's no value. Everyone who buys it is buying the tech whether they're aware of it or not. It goes even further, the entire crypto economy rests on the security of BTC, as long as it's secure it benefits conflicting interests to promote less secure alternatives. All the twitter experts hyping altcoin tech and shitting on Bitcoin are benefiting from the technical decisions they're criticizing.
