>working at a mediocre internship for a year
>just think I'm barely coasting by, going to end up with a mediocre degree and get out
>present at a conference for my job, don't think my specific project is a big deal but whatever
>random dude comes up to me and starts talking to me, seems like just a nice old dude
>talks to me for a really fucking long time, wonder what his deal is, but keep on going because I have nothing better to do
>after a while dude asks for my name, says he wants to stay in contact to help him out with a future project he has in mind this summer
>gives me his name and email
>go back home, look up his name online
>has a wikipedia page
>original founder and director of a major tech company
>now a multi-millionaire venture capitalist
Holy fucking shit /biz/, I just made it and I had no idea it even fucking happened.
I guess when it comes down to it, blind luck and enough dedication to what seems like a middling job can get you somewhere.
I thought I was destined to being average my hole life, but holy shit you can fucking do it as long as you but yourself out there.

goddamnit

Did you consider that he might just be trying to fuck you?

I did not weigh that option, although I wouldn't exactly consider myself in the upper percentiles of attractiveness in that room or anywhere

>> No.298549

What are you studying?

>> No.298562

FYI he does that to several candidates in similar roles and will only call you up if you stand out against them. Also in project work there are significant changes in the matter of hours so don't count on this leading to anything. You havent made it anywhere until this job happens

Chemical Engineering

No, it's just me. The specific project I'm working on right now just happened to be connected directly to what he's working on right now. It just worked out that they were similar and I had the exact skill set he needed out of sheer coincidence. He didn't talk to anyone else at all, likely because they weren't a fit. My work right now is relatively unique

I'm not a special snowflake. I didn't think I was special, I just put on a good show, was a decent human being, and I got results.
Or, ya know, you can keep up this intolerable prick attitude and continue to not get any respect.

The point is just keep working hard and good shit can happen. God you fuckers are dense. My whole point is that you won't get a "lucky" opportunity at all if you just sit back and do nothing.

Yep he wants to give you the D

Have you even heard from this fucker yet? A call? An internship offer? Anything? If not, I congratulate you on a fine specimen to have for networking.

However, you don't even know what he'll be offering you yet. Heck, he'll have probably got details off many other people just like you. You haven't even made any money yet or got a place at a good firm/company. Once you've got that, then feel free to brag about you "getting somewhere".

>> No.299618

This is why you always act courteous and nice to people.
