>syria
biden means conflict in the middle east, the only question is when

OPEC can go either way, I'm trying to get a read on them myselves. If their motivations are at all political, it makes sense for them to keep the restrictions - they have the highest profit margin on oil, US output is still kneecapped and is going to be for ages, and russia will probably cooperate to get a leg up on the US and to avoid last year's meme war. I'd lean towards them keeping them this month, then pumping next month to rugpull America once they start getting more rigs online - if they're politically motivated, of course, but it still seems to best option to maximise OPEC profits

basically, I would not even think about shorting oil right now. Risky fucking move, good on you if you go for it and it pays off though.

This has been the case since June of last year. And oil use typically goes down in March into April until the summer.
>texas freeze
Temporary. Natural gas shows the "long term" effects of that "supply shock"
>also how many people will be using that to buy a new car, full tanks of petrol, road trips, etc, summer is coming
Not many. The evidence of the past two stim checks was it went into deposits. And not enough to justify the several dollar moves it has made.
>biden means conflict in the middle east, the only question is when
Syria is irrelevant for middle east "conflict" as it might pertain to oil.
I have been doing commodities for years and it was way, way, way, WAY too convenient for oil to be pushed up like it was considering all the various checkmarks it ticked off to help banks. Part of my portfolio is in energy and this pump did not feel organic.
But like I said, my energy is focused on shorting natural gas for a little bit more.

suicide stack is the amount of a coin or stock you buy to not kill yourself if it moons. IE; you read about something like -niggercoin- and it looks promising but you dont want to put real money in it, but if nigger goes up 1000x in value somewhere down the road, like many coins/penny stocks do, you'll kill yourself in regret. to avoid this, you buy a suicide stack, basically putting in a few hundred dollars or something so in the event of a 100-1000x increase you still get a 5 figure profit and if it does nothing well you're only out a few hundred bucks on your niggers so nothing is really lost. make it stack is putting in a few thousand, and if it does the 100-1000x, you can basically retire.

irrelevant or not, the market detatched from reality some years ago and speculation alone will drive prices, besides the entire region is a powderkeg and anything can flow into anything else

If you've experience with commodities I'll trust you on that, I'm new to them, and unfamiliar with how bank manipulation works, but in a vacuum it makes sense to me that oil is approaching the price it was pre-covid now and I expect it to carry on higher given inflation and what I expect to be the end of the honeymoon period with EVs/renewables before people realise that the money is still in fossil fuels and it will be 2-5 years out before that's properly started to migrate elsewhere

>Didn't sell either

It's an abstract sort of feel.
But investing only in blue chip tech stocks is great, because when I see too much red I can just close the window, go play vidya and come back a week later and things will be back to normal.

"Pent up demand" does not exist. Nor does stimulus actually help money velocity. I understand a lot of newcomers got into oil last year and are desperately impatient to see it finally pay off but part of the reason the banks did this is for precisely that reason. I would not be surprised if the bond sell off was to help set off inflation triggers to help oil specifically.
The takeaway is that energy is a hold for the moment. Need a rest and confirmation as well as the OPEC meeting to have come and gone before I would recommend increasing positions in it.
June is still my target for oil to begin rallying as it was last year when I was talking to oil "bagholders" in July-September of last year

Youre just trying to time the market by trying to wait for a better cost basis to enter at for something you plan to hold anyway. Just buy and buy more if it dips. I guess if youre extremely good about optimizing your capital allotment you can be bothered by not perfectly timing entries, but for me thats a great way to get priced out. Im pretty curious to see what event you forsee that would drag down AMD, TSM, and NVDA down to “reasonable levels” that wouldnt hit INTC as hard or harder. If their earnings start to go way up to where their price makes sense based on their earnings than yeah sure I'll buy them. They are not bad companies. isn't buying INTC now like buying AMD in 2015 when they got lisa su in? the new INTC CEO is a real engineer + he's hired back some veterans that knew how to design chips

xom has literally indebted themselves for years to maintain their dividend rather than paying of the debt they already had on hand due to covid. cutting their dividend would be extremely bullish and id be buying LEAPS on that dip. They are a slave to their dividend in an industry that will rape aging dinosaurs that cant adapt to changing legislative restrictions

Maybe but they have a history of being really shit, the only reason AMD lost to them during the Athlon days was because Intel straight up sabotaged them.
Since then Intel has become complacent. AMD not just caught up but is starting to fucking lap them, not to mention that their 11th gen is costs more and is shitter than the 5800X, they still price themselves as if they had better performance.
I'd only buy intel when they as a company actually show signs of improvement because back when AMD was in the shitter at least CPUs like the FX Series (Bulldozer/Piledriver) had some interesting concepts and could be better than Intel in specific scenarios for much less money.

>AMD currently has a loaded gun pointed at most of the industry areas INTC enjoyed a near monopoly on for many years
the main problem with AMD is that they will get massively cucked by TSMC's capacity for the next few years (I'm thinking until 2023?)

AAPL is buying up all the capacity/outbidding everyone else for TSMC's cutting edge nodes, they can afford to pay for it. this starves out AMD/QCOM/NVDA and forces them to go to 1) older processes at TSMC 2) Samsung which is behind TSMC

ASML, the manufacturer of EUV lithography tooling is booked up until 2022 and cutting edge fabs takes YEARS to build

Yeah that's definitely a good point, Intel make their semicons mostly themselves IIRC.
That's why I'd rather take TSMC over AMD right now but I do think AMD is a really good long hold, especially if they somehow manage to shit out a few CPU/GPUs.

The problem for Gelsinger is that while he's a smart and capable guy, Intel will need at least 5 years to start turning around, because of how long development times are and how much restructuring needs to be done in the entire company. In that time, they may well lose portable to ARM, given that Apple is going full speed ahead with the M1 and Microsoft is going to ship x64 emulation for Windows ARM soon. At that point, all that Intel has left is the x86 server market, which AMD is also attacking as hard as they can. Meanwhile, Google and Amazon are working hard on server ARM that improves price/performance/power consumption. Everyone in that market is still fucking mad about Spectre and Meltdown, and Intel has to fend off a fuckton of lawsuits while trying to regain trust. One big thing they could do is simplify their product matrix, as right now it's confusingly segmented into oblivion. Intel has the same sort of image problem that cost Microsoft the mindshare of an entire generation of engineers. That might actually be the hardest problem for Gelsinger to solve.

given the amount of legacy shit that MSFT has to support I suspect that will take a few years to mature out which gives INTC room to breath.

don't forget that INTC also holds an ARM architecture licence from when they used to produce XScale (acquired from DEC) so they could pivot if they wanted

7nm development is headed by a different team to 10 nm - they've already announced a delay but who the fuck knows. i'll be camping out on realworldtech/semiwiki to keep my nose to the ground.

either way INTC is a high risk high reward semi play with a 3-5 year timescale for payoff

I think a few months ago I read TSMC was planning on expanding into the US with a new cutting edge fab, that would help them as well.
