I'm thinking about saving heavily to afford a Model Y. I'm in school, I work 2 jobs and have plenty of disposable income. I live with my dad, who operates a very successful small business. So my expenses are limited to a few bills, I've got plenty to invest. Also, scholarships make school cheap. Been trading stocks for the past year, made nice profits but haven't gotten too serious until now. My money is on GROW and CSRS for 2021. I don't smoke, but I'm banking on more state legalization or potentially federal. CSRS is a solid company, good earnings and gaming will only get bigger. I'm sold on LINK after watching a few videos and will probably add to that every week as well. Tell me what you think, /biz/, this is my last stop before I'm all in.

>inb4 it's a waste of money
Fuck off, nigger

It’s a waste of money just keep buying link

>> No.29875661

I don't care if you say fuck off. Even if you can buy it in cash, this just seems so fucking stupid. You could start a business with that money but instead, you spend it on a fucking car?

Wait until you have 300k to buy your little tesla, not 40k.

The most useful advice is to not spend those very small savings on a car you absolutely do not need yet.

you do realize that buying specialty cars ends up being one of the worst investments you can make in mechanical upkeep? also you are choosing the ugliest fucking car ever, which will not gain in value. and come on be a fucking man, buy a pre-97 6 cylinder and enjoy all the money you saved.

I still think you should wait until you have 4x the purchase amount. You should be even more financially responsible if you're going to be a business owner because your income is not going to be constant and predictable.

When my Dad died, I inherited a chain of driving schools and a business that was doing a couple million a year and I thought it was a good idea to start scaling my personal expenses and when hard times came, my finances were so bloated with liabilities. I survived and so did the business but it was way more stressful than it needed to be because I was spending money on shit I didn't need (big fat mortgage, nice cars with expensive insurance and repairs, etc). Just don't buy shit you don't need bro.

i have been a lone ranger mechanic most of my life.
Tesla has TONS of unique parts. AKA not compatible with any aftermarket. Therefore- expensive, not guaranteed to be supported by the company in the future/no guarantee of a collector's aftermarket. Stock brake rotors alone are thousands of dollars. My 6 cyl. 4runner costs $150 for all 4, pads included. The reason a ford is great, is because you can take parts off of nearly any ford and they'll work on yours.

The simple fact is this car will end up being a money pit, and will never appreciate in value.

I've driven only shitter cars and live well beneath my means. Been saving very well for a long time now, and I want the car, so I'm gonna do that. I understand cash flow for small business, it's a constant burden, but we've been getting by well. I'm not a big spender, so I want to try something new. Cool story btw, where are your driving schools based?

This is also a real option. Also, some years I buy a sports car that doesn't really depreciate and drive it for fun from Spring to Fall and sell it back for a little bit more in the winter.

I heard that rotors and brake pads aren't an issue for Teslas.
It will depreciate in value, but I'm saving on oil changes, gas and emmisions. My friend's Tesla requires hardly any maintenance. Is there something I am missing here? Is this really not an economic buy?

Look at mazda rotary engines, there's no mechanic this side of japan that will touch the things. This car company has not been around long enough to prove they'll stick around, and it hasn't been long enough to see how their motors really stack up to the test of time.
Your call man, your money your life.

>> No.29877470

Man smartest thing you could do would be to buy a model S used like a 2014. You can find them for like 20k if you shop around. That’s a good compromise. You get to have your dream but also aren’t getting in over your head financially for it.

I looked around, not a bad idea. What really attracts me is the end of routine payments like gas, oil changes and emmisions. Yeah, I think they're badass, but it's honestly an economic buy. How long until it basically pays for itself from those three things alone?

>> No.29878673

>>29875501
Obviously you have your heart set on it if you’re saying not to tell you it’s a stupid idea. Just do your math be honest with yourself and buy it if you think it’s worth the money. All I’d say is used > new every time. Why not a used model X or high performance model S? Or a used base model S and save some $. You’ll still be driving the epic meme car and won’t have to eat as much depreciation.

>> No.29878694

>>29878034
if those costs dissuade you, then you should not be buying an expensive car. Your insurance/registration alone will be just as much as those routine maintenance costs on a 90's car.

>> No.29878922

i think im the only one in this thread who actually drives an electric car so let me tell u a bit about it.
THERE IS NO MAINTENANCE
all the guys saying that maintenance will be a killer would be correct if it was a combustion engine car.
maintenance will not be an issue, the problem is that teslas dont come with any real warranty.
if you have a problem go fuck yourself, and since theres no warranty then buying it brand new is a complete retard move. buy second hand for half the price.
the car is not ugly at all, a lot better than the pre 90s shoebox cars.

the thing is that everyone on biz only thinks about how to make money, they never think about taking profits or spending something on themselves, they think its dumb

>> No.29879222

Any motor will need rebuilding at some point you fucking retard. Doesn't matter if it's ICE or electric. A maintenance unfriendly vehicle will never be worth keeping more than it's initial shelf life.
>Over the course of 1 million km (621,000 miles), it had 2 battery packs and 3 drive unit replacements.

That's 3 whole new fucking motors, not even rebuilds, for half a million miles. Get real.

>> No.29879228

>>29878694
You see, I've been buying and selling used for a few years now. I'm sure you know just as well as any, getting some of those clunkers to pass emmisions is a nightmare.

I think those costs should dissuade anyone. Why not try to find a better way? Not everything online is true, but from what I've read, battery packs are the big money dumps for Teslas, but that's every 500,000 miles.

I am liking the idea of a used Model S

petrol cars dont even last 500k miles, youd have to buy another car or 2 to do this distance.
this is when teslas might need some maintenance
