I don't think it's that they don't teach this stuff... I think that the implications aren't emphasized. A lot of women are taught the facts, but they probably don't put two and two together.

I also think it's downplayed a lot in American culture. Women are encouraged to behave more like men, and disregard the constraints that are unique to being a woman. They're taught that they can have it all, and that kids can happen later... blame it on whatever you want, but women make great consumers, and encouraging them to put off having children in favor of earning disposable income is GREAT for the (((economy))).

Keep an open mind toward adoption, particularly if you find that pregnancy could be unduly risky for your wife, or the two of you just have trouble conceiving. There are a lot of kids out there that need families, and back in the day, couples that couldn't bear their own kids didn't take out a loan to get IVF, they took in kids in their tribe or village that didn't have anyone else. This goes double for women in your own families that are pregnant, single and not sure what to do. I know of two great kids that would have been aborted if a childless couple in their family didn't ask to raise them.
