3x leveraged index ETFs are popular here cuz the gains are massive, equal to most of the best individual stocks but you have the relative safety of a diversified ETF. /smg/ noticed this a while back so the conversation evolved to which is the best with the main two contenders being TQQQ and SOXL. They both grant similar similar gains but one big difference is SOXL is quite a bit more volatile than TQQQ. Anons realized they could harness this for more gains by selling covered calls making SOXL the more logical choice for a long term hold and call selling. Now a 15 to 1 split is here so the idea is accessible to people with smaller accounts. Not to mention the semiconductor shortage and the fact that unlike some in the Nasdaq, semiconductor companies mostly make actual money and they have a huge competitive moat. It's a perfect storm

>I guess you are one of those "fiat money is not real" schizos. Aight.
Why are you strawmanning? There are any number of small, medium, and even some large caps that give you either the prospect of buyouts (more relevant for the smaller firms) or profit sharing. You convert your paper note into cash generation which is how investors have been rewarded for nearly 100 years of the stock market.
And yet the two biggest firms, AMZN and GOOG, have zero desire to do that nor would it be possible for anyone to buy them out. They don't bother with share splits. And they don't think they ever need to give value back to investors.
How is that literally not just a slip of paper with GOOG/AMZN letterhead on it?

SNDL swings enough through the day to get a feel for volatility +/- 5 to 7% without the risk of having your shares called. You can use something really crabby like NOK if that is more your swing speed. But SOXL is a big swinger, and the potential to skim several times a day for profit does exist.

SOXL next week will be somewhere around $40 but I suspect that price doesn't stay there through the week as eager investors with low capital can now get on board. The semi industry is so bad right now, that everyone and their mother with a company reliant on semis is beginning to whine about the shortage in the news. Along with President Bidet signing an executive order a few days ago, you stand to profit handsomely if you can get in early with 100 shares and just hold on tight.

ARK invests in memestocks, and those go up lately.
Keep in mind that in the off chance ARK starts to underperform for whatever reason, and they see an outflow of cash, they will need to sell some of their shit. Since they own such a large share of so many memes, if they do actually have to sell, they will crash the price, and in turn their own price. This will cause even more outflow, basically crashing everything they actually own.
They do hedge against this by selling highly liquid stuff (like AAPL or I guess TSLA) first, but it's a systemic risk to be aware of. The downside is huge right now.

>Wait is SOXL tech?
SOXL is the answer. Face it. Semiconductors are crack in all but name. The desire for newer, faster, more is insatiable. Computers, GPUs, self-driving electric cars, AI enhanced smartphones, medical devices, microcontrollers, networking gear, machine learning, surveillance, infrastructure, military, the list goes on. No matter how many cores, how fast or efficient, demand requires bigger, faster, cheaper, better. The clamor for fresh silicon gives nary shit for national identity, creed, hue, gender or other vain conceit. The multitude speaks in singular. The plea: semiconductor.
SOXL couples a single ETF entry point with the the best companies the space has to offer then pushes the already stellar returns to the limit with 3x leverage. With SOXL your economic interests are aligned with hardware powerhouses TSMC, Nvidia, Qualcomm, Intel, Dutch based ASML, Broadcom, AMD, Micron, Texas Instruments, Applied Materials, et al. Real tech companies with innovative products people want, not """tech""" """companies""" pushing shitty ads. And like all leveraged ETFs, SOXL is rebalanced daily, accelerating gains in an upmarket while mitigating margin risks in a down.
In the last 7 years, SOXL has exploded over 100x (not even counting dividends!) yet still we are early. Semiconductor growth will proceed exponentially until every viable space is saturated with it. This is a fait accompli; the sheer number of interested parties and compelling outcomes make it so. The injection of increasingly compact and efficient sensors, microcontrollers, information processing, storage, and machine learning into everywhere and everything will be this era's seminal revolution, a revolution with SOXL holders planted firmly at the receiving end. Waiting for the "pullback" is a failure mode. Now. Buy it now.

Well nothings for certain about BTC prices... but looking at RHODL, log-growth charts, the new BTC ETFs and adoption by a few companies... I think stepping back it seems pretty clear BTC should have a strong year crash or no crash.

The nice thing with miners, is the price of BTC doesn't need to be at all time highs to make money. I just needs to not crash.

Honestly, that is the scariest shit there is. We all knew about the rona because we saw it hyped up here. Even in 2008 one could probably look into the numbers as a complete amateur and see something that could predict the crash.

But with the Fed we have no idea. They decide that behind closed doors and we will know about it when the market crashes and the first Anons scramble to post Tweets from the Fed or CNBC.
The only ones that can know what is going on are the big banks.

At least the last crashes were somewhat fair. This one will be a gut punch without warning. The ones that were not in stocks on that day are lucky and those who were, are not. Nothing you can do.

do you mean the strike price, anon? If you mean that for a protective put yes that is what you sell it at. Limit prices are for actually buying the put

>> No.29825349

>>29825049
your limit price is the premium you want to pay for the contract. generally you can enter a limit a little higher than the bid and get filled immediately, options generally have a wider spread between the bid and ask than the underlying.

the strike price is what you want to sell the underlying at. if you're buying puts as a hedge, you're probably buying puts relatively close to the money so that if the shares you are holding drop through that level you can sell them at the strike price and recoup the losses minus the premium you paid for the contract. you'll have to do some math to figure out what makes sense for your hedge.

if you're buying puts as a speculation or to take a short position with limited risk, the calculation is a little different and it depends on how drastically you think the stock is going to fall.

but the strike price is the price that the contract allows you to sell shares for at the expiration date.

When you think a stock is going down, look at the chart and decide what price you think the stock is going down to then decide roughly when you think the stock will get there. Then look for a put that has an expiration date after and a strike price a bit above where you pegged them at in the previous step. For example, you look at the chart and think SPY will surely be at 340 by June. Buy a 330 put that expires in July. This gives you some breathing room in case you're wrong on your prediction. Also, make sure you sell the put when it's comfortably in profit. Don't wait to expiration lest it go out of the money and you lose it all.

keep in mind that an options contract is for 100 shares, so if you enter a limit of say .80, the total cost of the contract when filled will be $800.

although really, you might want to paper trade options for a little bit before buying them without knowing what you're doing. the first time I ever traded options I put in an order overnight then double checked it and realized I'd put in an order to WRITE 20 call contracts that I wanted to BUY instead. they expired in the money as well so if I hadn't realized that and cancelled and fixed the order and instead got filled live I would have been on the hook for 20 naked calls that would have completely fucked me over.

agree, i have some long calls, i just did some cursory sweeps myself and pegged it as pretty reasonable. personally i have a better feeling about it than just 50% odds, but i only looked at crbp's studies/a couple other articles and didn't go deeper into other studies in a similar field. but it'd still just be all theory, so there's only waiting and seeing.
however, i did see crbp's twitter and they seem to be very enthused about the upcoming rare disease day meeting, which i wouldn't expect a company to be excited about if their main product was a complete flop

ANVS is only in Phase 2 currently. Preliminary data coming out this Q. Phase 1 went really well, and they did a shitton of animal studies in the last 10 years or so, and they were extremely succesful.
They dipped below $25 in the crashlet, so you can buy in now.

There was a random guy showing up out of nowhere shilling it, and he linked this video:

At 600 views, it looked pretty legit.

Tons of us FOMO'd in right then and there.

You're capping your upside by selling calls on your shares. You have a capped upside but you still have the full downside. That results in a negative return on average on those stock holdings. The premium that you receive from your sold call options makes up for this offset such that you gain nothing on average but only if the call options you sold were accurately priced. If the option IV was too low you still lose money on average and if option IV is higher than realized volatility you gain money. It doesn't make you money on average. It rather leads to underperformance. Why would you want to cap your gains on a stock where you're bullish and you're expecting higher upside volatility than downside volatility? It makes no sense when you think about it, except in a few special cases.

Bioshit has very different dynamics to commodities or tech, so it's not really relevant.
I'm wondering how much of that "REE is finally coming home" sentiment is priced in already. REE companies have risen ridicolously already.

>>29827468
Realized IV is less than IV on average, so you actually make more money on average. IV on bullish stocks usually skew upward too, so the premiums are pretty great.

I don't dispute that but I find conflicting figures about this. I guess the corresponding counterpoint to this is that you're still capping gains on something that you think might go up rather than down but you still have the full downside. There were so many faggots who sold calls on GME. They probably jewed themselves out of millions.

They supposedly found a safe small molecule drug that decreases the presence of several neural-damage-associated proteins.
They studied it in Alzheimers model mice, and also I think brain hemorrheaged mice. Almost all of them fully recovered after getting the drug.
Their studies are out there about this.

The bear thesis is that they directly contradict the current status quo about these proteins and their role in brain damage.
