problem with silver is most people can't tell the difference between a real one and a fake one. Meanwhile a nice .999 gold coin is unique weighted and colored so that the Real McCoy is obvious to anyone if they hold it.

So if you are in a bad situation and need to use the metal as currency, you're much better off with gold... plus anything that can be bartered with silver could be bartered for more valuable things like ammo, alcohol etc.

i usually go for pure weight, i don't believe that premiums will exponentially increase with the price. we have a lot of african stuff that sells really cheap, silver vodka tokens can be snagged at a good price. kazakh/mongolian coins are a good choice here, anything from out neighbors sells somewhat cheap.

if i were you i'd get mexican libertads or aftermarket maple leafs, everything else will most likely involve a hefty premium.
