The value is determined by the market. The market values a company from the perspective of somebody in the market to buy a company. If you buy company X, what do you get it terms earning potential, assets, property, cash and debt, and what would be a fair price to receive all of the above. That's the value. That divided by the number of shares determines the stock price. I haven't looked at Tesla so I don't know how I would value it but I suspect it was overvalued at $800/share.

As an example, Python has a ton of machine learning libraries written in C, so you can write your program in Python and easily make substantial changes to it without losing that much performance. I've been using Python since 2008 when Ruby was industry standard in terms of scripting languages, but I refused to learn it and turned down any job that required it. I was forced to learn matlab for AI in college, but I would just prototype my projects in Python and preach to my classmates that it was superior. The rest of the AI community caught on because we got numpy and scipy to replace matlab and tensorflow to surpass it. Even C++ is no longer required for heavy neural networks thanks to tensorflow.
