Looks like a hedge fund just pushed a gamma squeeze through the option market late yesterday.

A hedge fund decided that the time was right to start aggressively purchasing OTM calls around 1PM yesterday which required market makers to continue to hedge against it. This drove the stock price up. It's less a short squeeze and more a hedge fund cornering the market by purchasing a ton of OTM calls requiring market makers to hedge and push the price up (look up Softbank Gamma Squeeze).

Option market makers aren't going to let it happen again as their main control is jacking up the price of the call options. Right now OTM call options cost 3x what they did last time price was in this range. This will serve as a natural cap.

You should assume that the hedge fund that pulled this move has already cashed out.

They're correct, because that's how call options work. If you're selling someone calls at an $800 strike price and it looks like the stock will go past that, you're gonna want to buy the shares you're obliged to deliver sooner rather than later. In terms of "gamma squeezes", they're caused by large volumes of OTM option buying usually, but there's been a hell of a lot of option buying yesterday and today looks no different.
