yeah one of my drivers got into a DUI with the company truck. Total damages passed a million (spilled hazmat load) so I had the company declare bankruptcy. Insurance company took the assets but otherwise I wasn't affected. This is why you always put your business into a trust or LLC, because if there's an accident or some other major problem your personal finances are shielded from the firm's damages. I then made a new company, this time with breathalyzer lockout devices on all the vehicles. Insurance company gave me approximately the same rate as a newly capitalized firm because of that.

I don't think that'll ever happen but even if it did I own the shop where such equipment is sold and serviced. Especially now with all the supply chain problems in the auto industry, I'm making an easy $500 off every custom harness I sell and about $50 off every battery I rebuild. The business has grown so much especially when I'm the only ASE shop in my region willing to work on a Tesla battery pack, the only other guys willing to look at it are electroplaters and literal battery recyclers doing it on the side.

anyone still employing human drivers by 2030 will be ripped to shreds by companies that can offer 100% reliability from drivers who can work 24 hours a day, 7 days a week without stopping

Let me know when railroads automate, the closest we got are longshore equipment but even then the port of LA wants to do it by bringing in more (manned) trains. I'm not holding my breath.

There is certainly a lot of attention given to the technology, but zero on actual implementation. The sort of people designing self-driving trucks have no idea how to build a road that can even utilize them. In the 1920s it was realized that roads would have to be paved in order to facilitate trucking, in the 1930s it was realized that multi-lane and wide roads would be needed, in the 1940s special access roads (a highway) and in the 1950s and 60s special routes designated just for trucks. None of this exists with AV tech, at least not in real life. The closest would be the port of LA's trolleywire road or that one road in Nevada with a special truck lane, but these are isolated and private companies have no plans to expand them neither does the government.

Used to "day trade" on scottrade before I was even 20. Somehow those retards gave me 10x margin and I got liquidated when Apple stock took a nosedive 10+ years ago.

My friend kept laughing and joking that Scottrade was gonna call soon (an actual human does call you telling them to pay them back).

Ironically I would have 10x'd my position had I not used so much margin.

When you open a short or a long you risk getting liquidated.
Imagine I used a 5x leverage to short an asset that is worth 100.
I pay 100 dollars but I get 5 assets instead of one, wich I sell them all on spot I create a debt of 5 assets now iamgine the price goes down to 80 dollats that means I could give buy back the assets for 400$ leaving me a 100$ profit, pretty neat uh?
Now imagine the opossite happens and instead of going down the stock goes up, if it raises to 120 my colaterral (my initial 100) will get LIQUIDATED to cover for the losses, meaning the asset will get bought at the price and I pay the difference
TL;DR gambling with extra steps and more danger

Granted all i had were contractors, but drivers are the biggest cost, so obviously I plan on replacing them. Its a no brainer amd non automated trucks will eventually be unable to compete.

I severely underestimated the March 2020 crash and lost 50 BTC on BTC futures trying to time the bottom with big longs. Was pretty painful, but I was up about 50 BTC from trading futures and coped knowing I broke even. Since then I've stopped trading futures with large amounts and just stick to relatively small amounts. This year I'm up about $300k from it, although half of that is in an open position.

Speaking of liquidating, you guys hear about those poor Kraken users losing their portfolio on Monday to a flash-crash? There's a whole subreddit of despair going on over there:
