Everything you see/saw going on with Gamestop, AMC, and so on is going on with the bigger and less memey stocks, it's just bigger players deploying the same strategy. You could cause a gargantuan short squeeze on a lot more stocks than people realize because of the way the algos accumulate positions. The gist of it is that most people are buying. When that happens the algos/hfts go into short mode, over time, they amass excess short positions which they either try to exit profitably or hedge out. If a sudden buying shock took place, they would detonate and the algos would flip exacerbating the problem.
