On Feb 9 the short interest declined from 225 -> 75. That's the float side too. 'Real' shorts were ~40%. Not all of those are going to be from the 52w low. I'd say its more likely that the majority were from $300+, though how many they were able to get is questionable since they flooded into retail ETFs like XRT to short without worrying about a squeeze. If the report released today shows a large increase then its a good sign to keep holding. If it comes out showing a drastic decline in shorts, everyone will run for the exits.

How will they compete with established companies already in those markets? Those companies have a massive advantage through their own supply lines and deals with manufacturers. You don't pay a premium for a company who is trying to break into several different markets with little to no prior experience in them. The Microsoft deal is a 'partnership' circle jerk where they throw revenue at each other but Microsoft had all the leverage and essentially sold their systems and hardware to Gamestop.
