Today I sent a candidate to an interview for a Neurosurgeon position at a major hospital.

My candidate did not have a degree in Neurosurgery.

He didn't even have a medical degree.

He didn't even graduate college.

He never stepped foot in a highschool.

He showed up 30 minutes late and the interviewer told me he smelled like weed.

Did he get the job?

No.

But he got something more important: experience. And I got experience as well.

It doesn't hurt to expand your boundaries by applying to jobs you're unqualified for. If anything, it helps everyone involved grow as a person.
