That Fed cannot raise rates without unwinding the corporate debt bubble that has built up, and has gotten 150% worse in 2020, over the past decade. They are stuck between having to let inflation run in the short term and making it infeasible for companies with poor balance sheets to service or roll over their debt. The former is likely transitory, the later would damage the economic recovery to a huge degree, so it's my thinking the Fed will therefore do everything in its power to stabilize rates, potentially across the yield curve.

The bubble is in the central banks. The inflation is from their liquidity. We've rode the wave for the last year, and it makes sense to keep riding. The Fed won't touch rates until they achieve a semblance of normalcy in the labor market, which will likely take years. And before hand, they would still have to provide forward guidance and a plan for unwinding their balance sheet, unless they want a repeat of the Taper Tantrum; which, they could still get anyway. I think tail risk is getting fatter from all of the built up structural issues within markets, not due to any weaker-or-greater-than-expected economic data. Indexing, long vol hedging, shorting, speculation, margin debt, etc. will exaggerate vol spikes and momentum up or down. Who knows what will be the triggers.
